Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 (12-ounce) can buttermilk biscuits
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted
  • 1 cup quick-cooking rolled oats
  • 1 1/2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 1/2 cup sugar

Directions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

Generously grease a 9-inch square baking dish. In a small bowl, combine brown sugar and cinnamon and mix well with a fork. Separate biscuit dough into 10 biscuits. Cut each biscuit into quarters, and dip each piece in melted butter and coat with brown sugar mixture. Arrange in a single layer in baking dish. Sprinkle with 1/2 cup of the oats.

Combine blueberries and sugar in a bowl and toss to coat. Spoon over oats and biscuits and sprinkle with remaining 1/2 cup oats. Drizzle remaining melted butter on top. Bake for 20 minutes or until cake is golden brown and center is done. Cool for 20 minutes. Serve warm.

    Favorite breakfast dish!

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
When my husband knows I'm making this for breakfast he literally cheers! It's our favorite sweet breakfast dish. A few... suggestions as many others have said, I cook it longer- and in a bigger dish. Everyone who said the middle doesn't get cooked through- it's probably because they're using too small of a dish. Makes a huge difference! Also, I only use 1/2 stick of butter and end up using about 1 cup of the brown sugar. I use fresh strawberries instead of blueberries, slice them, and lightly coat them with sugar. Delicious! They kind of blend in with the biscuits unlike the blueberries rolling around. Read more

Couple ways to make prep quicker

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I have the recipe in the oven but started thinking about ways to make the prep go quicker (as well as the baking time): 1.... Melt butter, pour half into bottom of 11"x7" baking dish (2qt size dish). Sprinkle with half the brown sugar mixture. 2. Cut biscuits into small pieces. Use a pizza cutter to make this go quick. 3. Sprinkle the bottom of the pan with the biscuit pieces; drizzle with remaining butter and sprinkle brown sugar mixture over top. 4. Sprinkle with half the oatmeal. 5. Pour blueberries over top (I reduced the sugar as others have suggested and smashed them slightly in the bowl. I also used 2c since I had a pint). 6. Sprinkle with remaining oatmeal. 7. Bake as directed. With the increase in surface area it should decrease the baking time. I also reduced the butter by half because the recipe seemed like the suggested amount could be overkill.Read more

I cut down the sugar and up'd the cook time

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I make this all the time and I now have it where I don't even have to read the recipe. Typically I make it with blackberries... (cut in half) instead of blueberries. Simply because I like them better. I also cut down the regular sugar to a tbsp. I only just barely coat the fruit with it while I am prepping everything else. Otherwise I found that it was way too sweet. Also I cook it for 30-35 mins at 375 degrees. And if you don't have quick oats in the pantry, put a packet of instant oatmeal on it. Any flavor works!Read more

    Mmmm, Delectable! Sinful!

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
This recipe should come with a warning that says, "you can never have just one bite." This is my favorite Paula Dean recipe... of all time. I've served it at breakfast for out-of-town guests, as a side at brunch parties/showers, and at dinner as dessert. It's so divine, and the compliments are always overwhelmingly positive. Everyone always wants the recipe. If you've never made it, you should. Delicious Paula! Read more

    WOW!

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I read all the reviews and made this recipe pretty much exactly how it was written. I did use a metal baking dish, and ended... up leaving it in the oven 5 minutes longer. It was great with the berries, but I think next time I will try apples. I did take the suggestions from someone and threw it all in a ziplock bag to coat the biscuits. Super tasty, really easy, and quick. This is a great recipe to take to a brunch, or work in the morning to share with co-workers. Read more
