Yummy! This dish was a hit with my kids(whom I have issues with eating greenbeans. Will make this again and again!
Hey Rob, the onions and mushrooms are sauteed in a separate pan. The greenbeans are cooked to a boil in the broth in a separate sauce pan then drained before adding the beans in to the sauteed mushrooms and onions followed by the rest of the ingredients.

This recipe has turned out well for me several times in spite of errors. For one thing, it says to sautee mushrooms and onions in butter. Then in the next step, it says to boil green beans in broth for ten minutes. Does that mean you set aside the sauteed mushrooms and onions, or use a different pot to boil the green beans? Or do you add the green beans and broth to the mushrooms and onions, and boil all of it? I assume that some of the butter would be rinsed away by boiling in broth, so I keep them separated, but that should be made clear in the recipe.
Also the cook time is 40 minutes or more (10 minutes to boil green beans + 20 to bake the mixture + 10 more minutes after adding cheese, for a total time of 50 minutes.

Did not make nearly enough for my guests!
We had a our Annual February Turkey Fry Friday and I thought I would deviate from the typical Campbell's green bean casserole I usually make. I made to the recipe with only half cheese (just in case and it went so darn fast, being host, I had to scrape the bottom of the dish for my sample. Oh well. Next time I will make more.
Today I am making the aka meatloaf... Double recipe... I won't make the lack of green bean mistake again!
Twenty five minutes left on the timer and the family is chomping at the bit! Ha! Thanks Paula. You have made me Queen of the Seven here in Texas.

Excellent even without the cheese (just didn't want it. This is coming from a person who loves green beans, mushrooms, etc., but has always been turned off on green bean casserole NEVER liked it and have tried many, until.......NOW! The reason I made something I thought I would not eat is because my husband loves green bean casserole so I made it for him and surprise, surprise I loved it. It is delicious and I will definitely make again!

SUPERB!!!!!!!!!! I made this casserole as my pot luck dish for the Thanksgiving dinner at my workplace and let me tell you, I received nothing but rave reviews. I doubled the ingredients to feed a larger group and people were coming back for 2nd. and 3rd servings. My dish was one of the first dishes to finish. Well done, Paula

Delicious and quite simple! I needed a little more chicken broth though..but turned out excellent. Made this for a Christmas potluck so I needed to double everything and turned out delicious! ..Brought home an empty casserole dish :
