    CANNOT DESCRIBE how good this is! Didn't even need the cheese on top, but put a little on there anyways! THE BEST GREEN BEAN CASSEROLE EVER! Seriously Paula - you never let me down!

    Made this for Thanksgiving....LOVED this recipe!! I tried it at the last minute and didn't have the canned onion rings, followed the rest of the recipe exactly and the entire family loved it! I used fresh green beans. It will definitely be on future holiday tables and also made throughout the year!!!! Highly recommend this! A nice change from the "standard" green bean casserole!

    Look no further this is the best green bean casserole... EVER! Everyone loved it and wanted the recipe. I told them it's Paula Dean's recipe y'all! The fresh green beans make all of the difference. I also use baby portabella mushrooms and I added onion rings to the cheese mixture on the top. Yummy!

    Like many of the other reviewers I reduced the butter, cheese and fried onions. I doubled the green beans and mushrooms (I used shitake and everyone loved them. I also put the beans in a bowl of cold water after I made them for about a minute to prevent them from getting mushy. It was a hit and I'll definitely be making this again.

    This is so much better than your average green bean casserole. So glad I tried it for Thanksgiving yesterday. Everyone in my family loved it. I wish we had more left over! I didn't know if I should be using fresh or frozen green beans but for the sake of ease, I used frozen (Trader Joe's brand. Followed the recipe exactly as written and they were delicious!

    I made this for Thanksgiving, and it turned out delicious! I prepared and cooked it the day before. When I tasted it right after it was done, I thought it was just okay. It sat in the fridge overnight, and when warmed up and eaten the next day, YUM! If you make this for a holiday, I would suggest preparing it day before and letting it sit for a while. It's even better the next day.

    I do NOT like cooked green beans and am generally not a fan of the traditional recipe, however, this one was FANTASTIC! I was shocked on how good it was. It really doesn't "need" cheese but it certainly didn't hurt the recipe. I went heavy on the mushrooms too. I left it in the oven for closer to 30 minutes as I really wanted it hot and crispy on top. I added some of onion rings on the top.

    Made it today for thanksgiving!!!!!!!!!!!!! We loved it.....alot better than the plain ole green bean casserole. I used canned green beans and omitted the sliced mushrooms (wasn't sure if everyone liked them but other than that followed the recipe. I will surely make this again:

    Made it today, it was a hit with the family!! I did use less butter, but otherwise I kept it the same... as someone else posted it isn't the healthiest, but on Thanksgiving, we indulge a bit! ;
