These are SOOOOO good! Yes, they are slap your mama good! lol I had these all the time growing up and was looking for the recipe and this is it and tasted even better! I didn't have the salt pork so I just sliced up some bacon and browned it in the dutch oven first before adding the rest. They turned out fabulous. I could've just eaten that and nothing else!

I was looking for a recipe my grandma used to make and this is almost identical except for one minor change. After everything is done, I make a white cream gravy (with the bacon fat and chicken stock, flour, milk and tons of pepper and add it to the pot. This takes it over the top!

Oh my goodness! These were to die for! My Mom was born and raised in the South but I had never had the beans with potatoes and onions. Talk about your comfort food: My Dutch hubby even loved them and he usually just likes his beans blanched well!

OMG!!! AMAZING!!! I just used 3/4 pound of bacon and sliced it and cooked that instead. Then I did not add any butter. These beans and potatoes were DELICIOUS!! I mean I could have eaten the whole dutch oven full!!! Thanks Paula, YOU ROCK:

once again paula rocks! I grew up with similar recipes with vegetables from our garden, and this one ranks right up there with grandmas.

Raised on Southern cooking, I can attest that these are just like Nana used to make. They're not particularly healthy, but they sure do taste good!

Excellent! I used thick-sliced bacon cut into lardons, about a 1/2 lb, and used all the bacon grease from crisping the lardons. I also added the onion at the same time as the green beans and sub'd beef stock for the chicken broth since I had some open that needed to be used--it was perfect. I even forgot to add the butter, and we didn't miss it a bit. I didn't have any problem with too much salt, and I used the full 3 teaspoons of House Seasoning, so you may need to adjust for personal taste. I didn't bother with peeling the potatoes in the middle since most of mine were really too large to leave whole--just halved or quartered as needed.

Wonderful and very tasty! I made this for a dept-wide potluck dinner at work and it was a big hit! I doubled the recipe and it was all gone within 45 min.! I personally thought it was too salty, but my co-workers loved it! When I make it for my teenagers, I cut back on the salt. We are having it tonight with pulled BBQ pork, thanks for the great recipe!

This was fantastic! Real southern flavor. I gave it a 4 only because it was really salty--next time I will use less salt, and maybe just a touch less fat.
