I fixed this for my husbands lunch on 7/13/07, for him to have at work. He said that was the best sandwich he ever had and wanted to know when I was going to make it again for him.
He also wanted to know what made that extra crunch in the sandwich and I let him know it was a granny smith apple.
    He just loved it.

I'm a vegetarian, my husband is not. I made one sandwich with soy bacon and his with real bacon. Both were outstanding!

I made these sandwiches with smoked turkey instead of bacon (local butcher didn't have anything good and they were delicious! The roasted red onion mayo was better after a day sitting in the fridge and also made a gread cheese and potato chip dip. The sandwiches were so perfect with the apples adding a wonderful flavor to the entire meal.

    I love Paula Dean!

MY FAMILY LOVES "BLT'S" AND I SAW THIS RECIPE AND THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A NICE CHANGE FROM THE SAME OLD STUFF. WE LOVED IT AND IT WASNT HARDER TO MAKE JUST A LITTLE MORE TIME CONSUMING, MAYBE 10 MIN. BUT IT WAS WORTH THE EXTRA TIME. GREAT NEW SANDWHICH FOR US. THANKS

I used applewood smoked bacon and colby cheese on my sammy. It tasted okay but I wanted more flavor. I think next time I'll use Miracle Whip instead of mayonaise. I think the tangy flavor of Miracle Whip would give this a nice bite. To kick up the onion mayo, I put some of my bacon grease in there for nice smokey flavor.

This was my very first Paula recipe that I have tried and it will NOT be the last!! Even my kids ate this and loved it. They usually refuse to eat anything w/onions, but they devoured this sandwich. I can't wait to cook them again..I think I may try it w/ a good size slice of ham since I am not a bacon eater.

This sandwich was a delicious twist on grilled cheese. The mayo took longer to make, but I now have extra for other sandwiches, which I am excited about. So good I want another!

My kids even loved these sandwiches! I would just cut the apple slices a little more on the thick side.
