This pie was good. Very easy to make. I've made it twice now, once with the strawberries and whipped cream served warm (tastes like strawberry shortcake in pie form, the other time i did add nutmeg by sprinkling it on top before baking it and then served cold. Both ways are good.

Try plumping some golden raisins, dry cranberries or currents and fold those into the mix before baking....I also kind of like to substitute part of the butter for some sour cream. We make sour cream raisin pie up here and with the grits for texture it is even better.

I was given a piece of this by a co-worker who refused to tell me what kind it was (and I almost refused to try it, but I did and I liked it. I made it at home and my children fell in love. I brought a few pieces to work to give to other co-workers and received rave reviews. I will be making this again today for one of my Thanksgiving desserts and I pray that it will be a BIG Hit! Awesome way to put grits to use!

I actually made this pie from Paula's "The Lady and Sons Just Desserts" which calls for only 2 eggs; also, I didn't have buttermilk so I used regular 2% milk instead. I must have over-cooked the grits because I had a hard time mixing the ingredients together. I ended up putting everything in my blender and mixing until smooth. The pie came out great!
We have a familily reunion coming up, so I might use coconut flavoring instead of vanilla and see how many people think it's a coconut pie!

Tried this at a small restaurant in our town and thought it was coconut pie (a favorite but to my suprise she told me it was Grits Pie. Normally I like my grits covered in tomato gravey but wow this is a keeper. Had to come get the recipe for myself.

Very good pie... I did decrease the butter some. A whole stick of butter made it a little greasy to me. Very easy to make and very tasty.

Who would ever think to make a Grits Pie.......only Paula Deen....wow, this was so good and so easy. It's like a custard pie with that little bit of texture.
This was truly delicious. We eat a lot of grits in our house, so I'll be making this more often now to share with friends and family.

    Thanks Paula.......truly comfort food......

I've never heard of grits pie so I had to try it. How can you not? It sounded so easy! So I did and I'm so glad I did. I was so yummy. I don't like egg custard based pies but the grits gave it the perfect texture. I made it for a dinner party and everyone loved it and wanted seconds. It's a must try pie even if you don't like grits or egg custard pies!

The grits pie is wonderful. Made it twice. It was better the second time because I used only 1/2 cup sugar instead of 3/4 cup and cooked the grits for 2 minutes instead of 4. Didn't use the pie crust at all, just baked it in the pan, dished it up and served it warm with a dollop of Cool Whip . . . MERCY!
