Mmmmm! Made these for a little cocktail party with girlfriends and everybody wanted the recipe. The only change I made was to use fresh mushrooms that I sauteed off in a little BUTTER. Love you, Paula!!

These are awesome. However, I am not a fan of canned mushrooms, so I chose to use fresh mushrooms. I sauteed them in a liltte butter, really good. Also, I cut my grits into 2x2 squares rather than using the cookie cutter, no waste this way.

i loooooved this recipe. it's super easy to make and had a great outcome. my guests and i thoroughly enjoyed them. we did have a few leftovers that i tried reheating the next day, but it didn't work out. it's a one day recipe only, but it's a great one!

In response the previous commenter's question, I do not care for mushrooms either, so I was thinking of substituting artichokes when I try these. I love grits, so if artichokes do not work, I will keep on trying this recipe to get a great combination of flavors. Thanks Paula!

I haven't tried this recipe yet - but I watched Paula make it on TV and all looks yummy except that I am not a fan of mushrooms. Can anyone suggest a good substitution? would ham or bacon work? other ideas?

This was just awful. I followed the recipe very closely. The topping was just terrible. I decided not to serve these and had to scramble at the last minute for my part in a pot luck party. The only reason this doesn't have 1 star is the grit cakes themselves were ok. I think with a better topping they would work great. But that canned mushroom/canned onion/mayo stuff couldn't even be saved by very good Parmesan cheese.

Fresh mushrooms make the difference. I reduced the mayonnaise and it was excellent. Also had to cook grits longer to get them to brown just a little.

These are AMAZING! I do tend to toast my grits a bit longer than the directions say to get that crisp on them but other than that I stick with the recipe to the "t". These are loved by people that don't even care for grits! My husband LOVES them!!

I made these for 2 bridal showers and 1 baby shower. Seems evertime someone tries them, they keep asking me to make them for the next event. A sure-fire win! Absolutely delicious!

I made these but didn't find them very tasty. I think the next time I would use fresh sauteed mushrooms (don't much care for canned mushrooms as they tend to be bland.
