I have never cooked or attempted to make Gumbo in my life!! but now that I am a stay at home mother I decided to try out this recipe with my family! After cooking it I served it to my 4 children ages ranging from 3-11yrs. old, as they started to eat my back was turned while making them there drinks, all of a sudden all I heard was applause, as I turned around each of them was clapping and raving how good the meal was, Paula's Gumbo was a HUGE HIT with my family. Thank you so much Paula for being such a FANTASTIC cook!!! Everything you make turns to GOLD. You go GIRL!!!

My first attempt at gumbo was a huge success. My husband and I loved it and even enjoyed it more the second day as a leftover. I have made this twice and is a keeper in my recipe box. Timely but worth it. Thank you.

We are trying to eat low carb, so we used a turkey sausage and replaced the shrimp with cubed Canadian bacon. My husband liked the gumbo, but I thought the taste was too strong - after a couple of bites, I'd had enough. Perhaps serving it over white rice would have helped tone it down. Maybe the Worchestshire sauce was too potent even though we used about half of what was suggested and half the garlic. Also, it was too salty - I would not add any extra salt next time. It smelled good while cooking, though.

I made this Gumbo for our Newcomer's Club monthly Dinner Club. It was a huge hit!
The only changes I made were that I substituted zuchinni for the okra and I did add a little hot sauce. I will definitely make this again!

I made this without the shrimp and substituted green beans for okra. Still had all the wondeful flavor and GREAT reaction from everyone who came to dinner.

Prepared this recipe for Christmas Eve family dinner and everyone raved over it. The only change I made was to add about 3 tablespoons of Cajun Seasoning. Double the recipe and it's great for a crowd!

My DH and I really loved this recipe, but I will add more spice next time. We like spicy foods. I think I may try serving it over rice next time. I will absolutely make this again.
