I don't know where you have gotten this recipe but that is not how to make gumbo or shall I say a cajun gumbo. You need to stop trying to imitate the cajuns, or get it right first, that show was disgusting and should not even have been called a gumbo. this really upsets me, that everyone tries to imitate a really good meal but does not know how. What if someone from up north wants to try this recipe, how nasty will that be for them to think that's how to make it. get your facts straight before you try to copy a cajun.

This is the best Gumbo that I have ever tasted and I got so many compliments on this dish. My coworkers told me it was better than any soup they have ever bought from a resturaunt.

This is not a spicy gumbo. Very hearty and is great on a cold winter day.

I made this for my family and we all loved it! The roux was a little tricky and I was afraid I burned it, but turned out great! I made it the night before and kept in the fridge. The next day I put it on medium-low heat to warm up and added the shrimp just before serving. I didn't think it would have any spicey heat to it because there is no cayenne pepper or hot sauce, but all the pepper gives it a little bite. We each seasoned to taste with hot sauce. I also served over steamed rice with corn bread biscuits. Would also be great with a more traditional french bread baguette.
