They were soooo good. I loved them and so did my sister, mom and dad. I don't like hazel nuts so I used Andies mint chips instead. They were amazing. A good family treat.

These were really good. I could not find the wafers, so I used chocolate mint squares. My only suggestion is that you chop the chocolate squares up and sprinkle between the cookie layers. The dough spread SO much, that the chocolate square just sat like a large lump in the middle. But the taste was fantastic and VERY easy!

You aren't supposed to use COOKIES, mint-flavored or otherwise, in the middle. You are supposed to use a CANDY WAFER!! I have had the original 1950's recipe for over 40 yrs. and I got it from my mom' recipe files. That is a homemade sugar cookie recipe because they didn't have store-bought oookie dough back then. The homemade sugar recipe works better. I had to stop making this cookie in the 1970's because I could no longer find the
mint candy wafers. I have made the cookies using a Andes mint wafer cut in half and I have used the chocolate wafers with the white non-parials on top (still available. They are the shape and size of the original Starlight brand mint wafers called for in the original recipe. Both turned out okay as long as you make sure you throughly seal the edges around the candy wafers very well or the chocolate will run all over the outside of the cookie. They are good if you make them with care.

Man, these cookies are so easy yet so perfectly yummy! My brother is constantly bugging me to make him these. The fact that it combines two of the best cookies ever, chocolate-mint and sugar cookies, that already taste wonderful on their own makes these cookies not only heavenly but one-of-a-kind. It is so cool and clever how the mint cookie is hiding within the seemingly-normal sugar cookie--such a nice surprise! I love, love, love these!
