Only 5 stars after a few changes...otherwise, still a 4! I accidentally forgot to add the lemon juice...even after I squeezed it! Oops! ;- I used Pepper Jack cheese, added several dashes of Worcestershire sauce, put the bacon under the patty (as others suggested to crisp it up (DO NOT like soggy bacon and it worked beautifully! I wasn't certain if I would like/love/hate the bell pepper in this, but I absolutely think it would not have tasted as good without it. Don't get me wrong, I love bell pepper, but this is sort of meatloaf-ish and I've never added bell pepper to my meatloaf. One more thing, I did have to cook this for about an hour and the carrots were far beyond "al dente" and the potatoes much less so, but still had a little crunch although sliced VERY thinly. I am definitely going to make this again...this weekend actually, but I will slice the potatoes even thinner as well as slicing instead of quartering the carrots. And not sure I missed the lemon...

It has been a while since I made them, but they are great. I make them for other people and they look at me funny when I tell them what I am going to cook. Then when there eating them they like em and want the recipe.

I just made these for the 2nd time. I totally forgot the cheese, added some worchestershire and even my picky non-red meat teenagers liked it. This time I shaved the carrots, and substituted shaved yellow squash for my teen who doesn't like cooked carrots. I did cook them on the grill over indirect heat most of the time, (too hot here for the overn but will try the idea of putting the bacon on the bottom so that it gets a little crispier. Thanks paula, we luv ya.

Absolutely delish and full of flavor! If you are cooking on the grill watch your grill temp and time or they'll stick to the foil. Next time I think I'll try bacon side down to help crisp it up and avoid beef sticking to the foil or a higher fat content (used 92%

I never thought of cooking a burger in tinfoil in a fire! It reminds me so much of tinfoil dinners. This recipe is now one of my favorite hamburger recipes.

These are delicious! We have them often and experiment with the cheese using what ever is left over in the fridge. (I prefer using Cheddar They do take a little longer than stated, but well worth it. The bacon does not get crispy in the foil, so you may want to open the foil packets and turn on the broiler for the last couple of minutes.

First time I made this dinner I wasn't sure what type of cheese to use so I used Parmesean. Bad choice next time I will use Pepper Jack. This does take about 1 hour to cook and I will put the carrots on the side next time I make this since they did not cook all the way. But very tasty and very easy to make.

I have made this recipe many times. While visiting in Florida 4 years ago, I made this for a group of friends and family. Everyone loved them. I have sent this recipe out to many of my friends and relatives and I can only give thanks to Paula for this fantastic recipe. Thanks Paula......in fact, I am making them as we speak. The house smells sooooo good when they are baking. This one is a must to try.
