    I thought this looked like it would be a great recipe..but when I made the hoecakes they turned out very dry. Basically tasted like a plain cornbread..nothing great about it in my opinion.

    yes, it tastes like the hoecakes my mom used to make for us 5 girls and a dad around the years of 1928 to 1980 -+

    Paula: When our children were young I used to fix what I called fried cornbread which they always liked. Your recipe for Hoecakes was so much better. We enjoyed them so much. I love your show & recipes.

    Growing up in the South, I remember these well. Always loved them and finally, at long last, have found an authentic recipe for this delicious fried cornbread.

    My family just loved these they reminder them of the cakes their grandmother had made. Grandma died May 23, 2003 so this was a good time to give them a reminder of her.

    Never heard of Hoecakes before Paula showed me. This will be a great brunch addition. My husband wanted me to make more the next day!
