I would agree with several of the other reviewers that these were somewhat bland. Having eaten a lot of hushpuppies in my life, I would say these were just okay. After cooking a couple and tasting, I did add 1 Tbsp bacon grease which helped but next time I will add some honey and Old Bay seasoning with maybe some thyme. I may also try replacing the buttermilk with beer. Also, changing the flour ratio to contain more flour should make them not quite as dry. As mentioned by some of the others, do not over mix the batter. All in all, this is a good base receipe. Personally, I liked these better cold as a snack after they had been in the refrigerator all night.

Very bland and batter was too thick. I added more buttermilk and 1/2 cup sugar and they went from bland to amazing.

I recommend using water instead of buttermilk and please don't add sugar! Add just enough water to make a very thick batter.

I added a little parsley & sugar to the recipe & it was much better. Otherwise it's just too bland.

Blah, very very bland and uninteresting. For comparison, it tastes worse than fast-food (i.e. Long John Silvers' pups. LJS's are actually more sophisticated in flavor (heaven forfend! Would recommend looking elsewhere for something a little more challenging and rewarding than this worthless exercise in banality.

These are just ok to me. We substituted onion powder for the chopped onion, and the flavor was good, but they weren't nearly as light as we had hoped, and were pretty dry.
