My husband really enjoyed this one and asked me to make it again. This is a great "end of the summer garden" recipe. I used the white corn from my garden instead of shoe peg corn, and instead of butter beans, I used the beans I shucked from my overgrown green beans. I reduced the amount of butter and used green string beans instead of okra. GREAT!

It was amazing!! I can't believe I'm saying this, the 8-year-old boycotting vegetables in me is surprised that my favorite thing at dinner tonight was this awesome succotash!
I suppose it doesn't hurt to give some credit to the ham hock and bacon flavoringl! WOW! I can see why people said even children and picky eaters enjoyed this dish.
I will make this again and again. I, too, lessened some of the butter and salt... oh! and we added some green onions.

Everyone loved this! It was also very colorful.

I am just learning how to cook and my favorite recipes have been Paula's, they always seem to wow people. Thanks a lot!

However, I did cut down on the the amount of butter and added more Tabasco. It turned out great! Thanks Paula!

This is the best! I have made this several times, ususally for a big crowd. Even my picky neices and nephews loved it. If you need a replacement for the okra, I would suggest fresh green beans. If you don't have any ham hocks, a left over bone in hame makes it just as wonderfull. You can't beat all the goodies that are in this dish. I also like to add the cherry tomatoes at the end so they don't turn to mush. this dish is even better the next day.

I really enjoyed this side dish, not only was it good with dinner. I mixed it with some left over pork tenderloin added a little italin dressing and ate it cold for lunch the next day. Very tasty. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the slimy texture of the okra. Next time I think i'll substitute green beans.

I made this for Thanksgiving for a PICKY bunch of eaters, and this was a huge hit! You can't go wrong with so much bacon in a dish, I think. I'll definitely make this again and again.

The ingredients are a superb blend of southern comforts. However, at the end of the instructions for the receipe, you failed to mention when to merge the butter beans with the corn, bacon, okra and tomato mixutre. I feel I was sucessful in my dission to blend the butter beans at the end with the tomatos.

To ad an extra topper, i added 1/4 teaspon finely chopped jalepeno pepper!

    Bon Apetite!!
