I am a baker I have baked all my life. I have never had a problem with any of Paula's recipes exceepet for these brownies. She said on the TV to use 20 1oz chocolate squares so that is what I used I do not think that it is the chocolate that is the problem I think it is the butter. When I was baking it the butter seperated tried adding flour that did not even help. will not be making these brownies again!

I only used the 1 ounce of chocolate called for in the recipe. It turned out delicious, and has a great texture. The bonus is that when they're baking, they smell amazing! Very good results, and super easy. I've enjoyed all of Paula's recipes that I've tried so far.

I made these brownies for Christmas and they didn't last long at all. I followed the recipe and only used 2 squares of chocolate and everything worked out perfectly. My daughter requested brownies so we have PD's skillet brownies today!

I followed this recipe to a T following the exact directions and using the same ingredients she stated on TV.....the brownies were horrible! I immediately threw them away. I have since bought semi sweet chocolate...the "20" 1oz bars of unsweetened chocolate was too bitter for just 1 cup of sugar (as she stated on TV...I'm going to try this again using the online instructions this time I think.

I also saw her make this recipe on TV and she did say 20 squares of chocolate. Much more than the recipe calls for. Am wondering if that's why some of the reviews aren't so good - followed what the recipe said and they didn't turn out. Am wanting to make these, but think I'll use the 20 squares. If anyone has made it that way what did you think?

Other than the novelty of using an iron skillet to mix this in, this recipe is very similar to my usual brownie recipe. While I haven't made this YET, I will just melt the chocolate and butter in a large bowl in the microwave and proceed as usual, using Paula's specifications and amounts. Should be interesting. I'll update my comments after I've made these a time or two.

This recipe was exellant, but i used milk chocolate, so it wouldn't be bitter.

HOLD ON!!!!!! I just watched her make this, it is supposed to be a bitter brownie, and she actually used 20, yes twenty, ounces of unsweetened chocolate, I will make this way!
