Other than the novelty of using an iron skillet to mix this in, this recipe is very similar to my usual brownie recipe. While I haven't made this YET, I will just melt the chocolate and butter in a large bowl in the microwave and proceed as usual, using Paula's specifications and amounts. Should be interesting. I'll update my comments after I've made these a time or two.

This recipe was exellant, but i used milk chocolate, so it wouldn't be bitter.

HOLD ON!!!!!! I just watched her make this, it is supposed to be a bitter brownie, and she actually used 20, yes twenty, ounces of unsweetened chocolate, I will make this way!

I have only ever made brownies from store-bought mixes, but lately have had a hankering for truly homemade brownies. After some research, I found Paula's recipe and I baked a batch of these brownies this weekend. I had to bake another batch because the first was devoured. I didn't see the need of dirtying up another pan, so I just baked them in the cast iron frying pan I prepared them in. Delicious, moist, crispy edged brownies. I'm not a fan of iced or frosted brownies, so I skipped that part, but these are excellent when topped with vanilla ice cream.

I made these brownies to take to a group of chocolate lovers and we were so disappointed. I would use semi-sweet chocolate. These were not good at all and I had to throw them out. We even topped them with homemade ice cream but there was no saving these brownies.

It was disappointing , to make these brownies. I just bought the cookbook, and found out that the amount of chocolate is two 1ounce bars of chocolate. The book, didn't have the recipe for the marshmallow cream frosting.

This is not typical Paula Deen . I hope someone would make the corrections.
    Her recipes are great.

I love Paula's recipes but this one is horrible. Instead of unsweetened chocolate, I would use bittersweet or semisweet chocolate and add the cup of sugar, but the consistency still wasn't quite brownie-like to me. The icing used too much confectioners sugar and completely lost the taste of the marshmallow. I won't be using this recipe again.

Ifollowed the recipe exactly. Always love paula's recipes but this one is heavy and dry. recipe reads 21 oz unsweetened chocolate and 1 stick butter-is this correct?
more of a question than a comment.
    thanks
