I absolutely love this cake! It is beautiful, and the effort involved to make the frosting is well worth it. I did stop using the 1-2-3-4 cake recipe, though. To guarantee perfection every time, I started using a French Vanilla flavored cake mix. I substitute coconut milk for the water, and I add 1t. coconut extract. I also add the exteact to the filling. I like to put the cake together and chill it for a day. The next day I make the frosting and finish it up. It always ends up incredibly moist. I even auctioned a couple off for a school fundraiser where they brought in some handsome donations.

I got the recepie today and made it.It did take a while, tho making cake, filling & frosting. But worth it.it was a fluffy yellow buttery cake, fluffy white frosting, the filling was a bit thin.was picture perfect for friends bday.A keeper! But make sure u use self rising flour..some reviews claimed it was dense, but not mine.sonja

I made this cake once and I do remember it coming out slightly on the dry side, but it wasn't at all horrible and tasted quite nice with the frosting. It also looked exactly like the picture, which I was pretty proud of. I would make it again.

Interesting... I accidentally went to a web page on my phone where someone reposted this recipe, but it was slightly different than this, which is a bit different than the video. I almost never watch the videos, but because I was confused by the mobile vs. computer (and the fact that the "cake" instructions say to remove from pan and cool completely, but the filling part says to leave it in the pans, I watched a bit of it. I'm SO glad! I didn't know it was necessary to "marinade" the cake with the filling - the video (Ms. Deen says to fill the cake and marinade that for 3 days. (Only did it 1 day, but better than my original plan to immediately "fill" and then frost.
I had no problem with the cake being dry - even before the filling, but I didn't have self-rising flour. I substituted cake flour + 1 Tbsp baking powder + 1/2 tsp salt.

The cake is terrible but the filling and icing are fantastic. Buy a white box cake and follow the rest of the recipe. That is what I plan to do next time.

As I am a good home baker I was disappointed with the cake. It was very very heavy and dry.I think there should have been baking powder or soda in the the cake recipe and I bet it was forgotten. On the video the cake look lighter than what I made.
