I tried this sandwich a while back, it is one of the best sandwiches I have tasted. I am making it for my daughter today and know that she will love it. It has a crisp taste to it, all of the flavors just stand out on their own and blend together as you close your eyes to savor the flavor on your pallet and one thing for sure, you will never miss the meat. GREAT SANDWICH!

I tried this sandwich at Paula Deen's restaurant in Savannah, GA. It was beyond amazing! The flavors stood out perfectly on their own, yet complimented each other well. I can't wait to try and make this at home! It was definitely one of the best sandwiches I have ever eaten.

Love this sandwich! A nice change of pace from my regular mediterranean style veggie sandwiches. It's a keeper.

OMG, we could not get enough of this. Sounded like an odd sandwich, but a friend told me it was great. My friend made her sandwiches with Sourdough bread...so...I made with pumpernickel as listed in the recipe and also w/ sourdough. We loved it both ways. I also seasoned with the lemon pepper when I sautéed the asparagus. Truly a keeper and great w/ the fresh spring asparagus. I suggest the larger asparagus spears as opposed to the pencil thin spears.

me and my family just got back from traveling through the south and when we got to savannah there was no question we had to find and eat at lady and sons. I had the buffet and gave tastes to the family. But my daughter ordered the aspargus sandwich..now coming from the north this is unheard of so we were all cautious. But after one bite and all the ohhhhh and ahs i had to try a taste....ohhhh my goodness how could something so simple be so outregeously good.. it was fabulous and i knew i couldnt get the ingrediants from the restraunt and to my great surprise it was online. thank you paula deen and family for sharing these recipes. i loved your area but with so much of the world to see its a safe bet i wouldnt be going thru that area again. SO thank you for sharing this with us so i can share it with the family back home. Oh and to all those who do go to the restraunt everyone single thing there was outstanding even the ice water was good......

The first time I saw this recipe I was a little off on it. But I love Pumpernickel bread. We use to put butter on it and in the skillet it went. The purple onions are the only ones to me that are good.
When I mad this and took the first bite. I was in Heaven. I made up three and gobled them down as fast as I could. It s the most awsome sandwitch ever.

I finally got around to making this recipe, and it was soooo delicious! My husband also loved it. I will definitely be making this again and again. I used provolone cheese and omitted the onions. Additionally, instead of making the dressing homemade, I purchased Newman's 2 thousand island dressing. It was scrumptious!
