some claim too rich....i disagree....it should be!! its Southern!!
Neighbor made some and sent it over....not only did i eat it for dinner that night....breakfast the next day....rich yes....but it wouldnt taste right anyother way...plan on making 4 mini casserole dinner for movie night with the neighbors....pear walnut vinigrate salad, hot bread and apple tart for dessert.

Paula does the best when it comes to comfort foods,...and here in Alaska
fall is on its way....perfect for a warm comforting dinner nite and movie...

would make this again and again.....in fact have my daughter picking up small cassolet bakeware for presentation,.,,

if rating.,remember rate fo the recipe,,,not the changes you made...for your preference....its only right to acknowledge the true recipe....

I made this recipe for dinner tonight after reading the raving reviews. I read the ingredients and was hesitant because of the heavy cream and butter but thought it might be worth it. Wow, it blew me away. I just popped two Tums and my stomach still feels heavy. I have no idea how anyone can tolerate how rich this tastes! The dish itself came out perfectly and was easy to make but I will not be making this in the future.

Chicken base is a paste that adds flavor like bouillon. It tends to have richer flavor than bouillon. Look in the soup isle in your grocery store near the bouillon.
There is a commercial brand named Minor's that is available on-line or in restaurant supply stores. I have also bought it at a warehouse store. BJ?s
Minor's makes alot oflavors and they are great.

I googled chicken base and i got two answers

    1. it is in a powdered form

    2. it is a paste

it is like stock and bouillon and the answers suggested to use stock if you did not have or couldn't find base. but you could try and watch the episode and see what it looks like and go from there or google it yourself.

I love Paula and have many of her recipes. Please help me, I need a little education on an ingredient. What is chicken base? Would it be chicken stock or bouillon cube. Help!! I want to prepare this wonderful recipe, but don't want to mess up. Someone please help.

I didn't use the puff pastry but used a pie crust instead. Followed the recipe other than that. Tasted great but with all of Paula Deen's recipes I could tell that I can't be having this everyday. I tried not to think of all the calories this dish had as I piled on another helping.

I saw this recipe and show about a month ago. I was intrigued by the lattice top. Never worked with puff pastry before. I followed all to the t,gathered up my ingredients over a couple of days, cooking chicken, cooking carrots for assembling on cooking day. My lattice tops were so big, and I had so much filling, more than the 2-9 in pie plates she used on show, I put mine in a 9 x 13 cake pan, used one lattice and half the other to fill in the gap. This is the best, the creamiest, richest chicken pot pie I have ever made. No more Bisquik CPP's for me after this. Awesome. Used the remaining lattice top for sopping up the gravy. mmm mmm

I don't like Chicken Pot Pie. Most folks I know don't like it. Every time I make this it is gone in moments and people want seconds.

Delicious! Even my grandson (5yrs old loved it. My son said it was the best he had eaten. I fudged a bit, and wanted some potato in it but was out, so I substituted some southern hash brown potatoes that were diced. Yummy! Great comfort food.
