It seems that this recipe needs more butter for the crust. it was dry and cracked during baking, something i have never seen in my years of making lemon bars. maybe 2 sticks.

I should have known there was a problem when the recipe indicated that the crust may stick to your fingers when you pat it in the pan. My crust was like the desert! I baked them anyway and ended up with a hard sugary layer between the filling and the crust. I actually had to jab them with my meat fork to get them out of the pan. I think the measurements must be way out. I wanted to throw the pan out with the bars so I wouldn't have to tackle the removal of the concrete layer left on the bottom! Oh well, I love everything else I've tried of Paula's. Better luck next time.

this was a great and easy recipe. I agree with others though. the recipe doesn't have enough butter. add another stick. It makes a difference

I followed the recipe exactly. I thought I must have done something wrong.I don't know if a dremel tool would have cut the crust. The filling didn't have enough lemon flavor just too sweet.

I do alot of cooking and baking, I followed the recipe to the letter, the taste was wonderful the problem was getting them out of the pan, I think something went terrilby wrong with the crust, short of using a pick axe to cut them, I would love to find out where I went wrong. I'm thinking there must be a typo somewhere in the recipe. I would really like to give the 'bars' another chance, but my teeth can"t take it.

I don't even like Lemon Bars and these were to die for. "Absolutely incredible and the best lemon bars I've ever had" were the comments I received from friends. I did implement the comments from the others. Thanks!

There is no way you can make a crust to "spread" in a pan with 3 cups of dry ingredients and 1/2 cup of butter. I pressed the "crumbly mix" in the pan quite hard, and after baking, the bars would not come out of the pan even though I sprayed it with Pam. The lemon filling was flavorful, but needs a bit more thickening. Was lucky I made 2 desserts for that meal instead of just the lemon bars.

or your ingrediants for that matter. I watched Paula Dean make these lemon bars and they looked "old fashioned" and good. Please they were unedible. NO ONE liked them. They were too gooey at first and then like a brick once they cooled. I followed the directions to the letter. I am an experienced baker and these were absolutley horrible.

Thanks to all for the corrections to the recipe - I made in 13x9 pan, put 2 sticks of butter in crust, then 4 eggs in filling - and even added 2 tsp of lemon zest. YUMMY! What a quick and easy hit. Will definitely make again. I even got my chocoholic neighbor to stray from her favorite chocolate and kept coming back for more. Now, that's an endorsement!
