or your ingrediants for that matter. I watched Paula Dean make these lemon bars and they looked "old fashioned" and good. Please they were unedible. NO ONE liked them. They were too gooey at first and then like a brick once they cooled. I followed the directions to the letter. I am an experienced baker and these were absolutley horrible.

Thanks to all for the corrections to the recipe - I made in 13x9 pan, put 2 sticks of butter in crust, then 4 eggs in filling - and even added 2 tsp of lemon zest. YUMMY! What a quick and easy hit. Will definitely make again. I even got my chocoholic neighbor to stray from her favorite chocolate and kept coming back for more. Now, that's an endorsement!

I love Paula Dean's lemon bars! I especially love the crust recipe which sets off the smooth lemon filling. Great Job, Paula!

I am holding "The Lady & Sons, Too" cookbook in my hand and it states that there should be 2 sticks of butter in the crust, not 1 stick. There should also be 4 eggs in the filling, not 2. It also says to use a 13 x 9 x 2 pan. Baking times are correct. I haven't tried it with these amounts yet, just thought that the print might be incorrect on this website. Hope it works for anyone who tries it.

The lemon bars did not solidify as much as they should have but were good with ice cream... WORTH ANOTHER TRY!!!

Reviewers are correct: "Too much flour for amount of butter stated in recipe. For a better lemon bar, try as follows:
    1/2 cup butter
    4 tablespoons confectionerssugar
    1 cup flour
    ---------
    4 eggs
    2 cups sugar
    8 tablespoons lemon juice
    4 tablespoonss flour
    1/2 teaspoon baking powder.
    fits in a square 8 x 8 baking pan

The crust was bad... too much flour I think. The top was runny...

I agree that the crust recipe is wrong but the filling is really good! I love the crusty coating on top. The crust was tasty too but there was just too much for a 8x8 pan and it was too dry. I could cut the bars very nicely though. Also, it produced clumps of suga and I think that was from the crust as well. It definitely needs adjustment. I will adjust accordingly next time and they should be great! Paula is a godess in the kitchen!
