I love this recipe. Make sure you don't add a whole gallon of water. The recipe states to add enough cold water to MAKE a gallon, meaning total volume.

Followed the recipe except I substituted regular white sugar with cane sugar. I also added one lime (may play with lemon/lime ratio the next time I make it. I adjusted the lemon juice/water combination until I reached the desired flavor. Add Belvedere vodka for a refreshing summer party beverage!

Too watery & too sweet, not enough lemon flavor. I happened to only have 1 cup of sugar, so I was going to make half a recipe and the second half after I picked up more sugar. Well, I combined 64 ounces of cold water & 1 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice with 1 cup sugar dissolved in hot water and thought it was really sugary and not very lemony. I kept adding more lemon juice, until I'd used up the full 2 cups. This was a little on the bitter side, so I dissolved 2 more tablespoons of sugar and added that in. I think this lemonade is perfect now--vibrant lemon flavor and not too sweet!

This has become my husband's favorite lemonade recipe, and I have been making this particular Paula Dean [lemonade] recipe for several years. I also use this recipe to make limeade for a change from lemons. If serving to guests, I often include orange slices, along with the lemon or lime slices for its presentation of citrus colors. Recently, our 9 year old grandson asked me for this recipe so he could make his own pitcher of lemonade, with some help from his mom! It's always a big summertime hit!
