I tried to make this and i could not get the batter worth the life of me. It turned out like taffy and it says to transfer it and roll it, its too hott for that.

I love to bake and do so all the time. These cookies almost make me want to give it up.Ended up with a pile of crumbs and one ok looking cookie. Never even got to the filling. This is not an easy receipe!

Making the trumpets was very tricky. The baking time in the recipe is too long. I had to cut it in half so they wouldn't be over done. Shaping them, was also a bit of work. Only a small window of time exists when they're cool enough to roll, but not brittle yet. Also, this recipe is very time consuming. Since you can only bake about 3 of the trumpets at a time it's a very slow process. I also felt that the filling was a bit gritty. I'd suggest using powdered sugar instead of granular. I'm sure there are other recipes out there that are just as good without all the time and effort.

I LOVE everything Paula makes, EXCEPT this cookie. It was easy to do, if you have the right gadgets. I made the filling and tried it, it tasted like I was pouring oil into my mouth. I added more sugar... still tasted like oil. I added Bailey's into it... still tasted like oil. GROSS! I'm going to try a lighter filling, maybe cool whip with chopped strawberries, or maybe a french silk filling. DO NOT make this filling!! Sorry Paula, everything you make is great but this filling is NOT.

    Sincerely,
    Danae

These are so hard to get off the pan while they look good. Also, the icing recipe was absolutely awful! I totally take responsibility fir them not coming out right, but they were fairly difficult!
