My Grandmother was a great divinity maker - so when I saw this recipe of Paula Deen's I just HAD to try it. The candy was too sticky, too messy & difficult to handle! Research tells me the mixing time isn't long enough - instead of "approx 5 mins" it should be more like 10-15 mins.
    Baker beware!!!

I'm a long time divinity lover but had given up trying to make my own after several failed attempts. I don't like the store bought divinity it just tastes odd. I tried this and I did have to beat mine about 10 minutes but I think the problem was that it wasn't cooling quick enough so I held some ice packs to the outside of the bowl and within a minute the gloss was gone and it held its shape. Superb flavor and texture, KUDOS to Mama!

First time ever making these. Of course, made it on a rainy day. OOOPS!!!! Thought I would have to throw it all away, then I remembered how I dehydrate fruits. AHA!!!! Put entire batch, stuck on their parchment, wax paper, onto cookie sheets. Put in a 150 F degree over for 2 hours. SUCCESS!!!!! They dried out perfectly and lifted right off the sheets. Guess it pays to be creative. Hope this helps anyone who got gooey mounds of pure delight.

    THEY CAN BE SAVED !!!!!!!! : :

Being my first time making divinity I was a bit disappointed. It was too soft and sticky. Not like my grandmothers.

Love Paula. Never had a bad recipe, except for this one. The candy never hardened (perhaps the humidity? but the taste was also VERY boring. I am going to have to try again and see what I could add to make it better tasting. Love you anyway, Paula!

Gran used to make this. She is 94 and unabled now. I thought I would never taste good Divinity again. I made this just like Paula, exept I added a lot more pecans (Grans always was full of them. It was out off this world. Thanks Payla.

I used a Kitchen-Aid mixer and when I stopped mixing, and started spooning the divinity onto the wax paper, it was incredibly gooey and hard to manage (you also couldn't eat these because they were too gooey. However, when I got to the middle/bottom of my bowl, the divinity was much more manageable (fluffy & dry, but didn't have the sheen like the first ones.

Did I do something wrong? I'm pretty sure I followed the directions to the tee.
