Of course, it's better with fresh asparagus, but works well with canned when asparagus is out of season.

I've been doing a version of this dish for years using zesty bottled dressing. However, I, also, cut up tomatoes to marinate with the bite size pieces of asparagus. It's a great summer side dish to take for picnics and cook outs!

What a great alternative to cooked asparagus. I used fresh and cooked for approximately 6 minutes. (you really need to keep testing to your taste Then I put it in ice water to stop the cooking and continued with the recipe. I am planning to serve this at Thanksgiving for an appetizer. Thanks so much Paula for your easy to prepare dishes.

My husband, Mr. french style green beans in the can only, loves this. He asks me to make it all the time. I do let mine marinate overnight. If you love asparagus or don't, you have to try this. It is the best. Now I don't have to eat green beans all the time. I am making the asparagus with lemon butter for Easter dinner at my Sister's. Just sounds like it will be a hit. Thank you Paula for bringing asparagus into my husbands taste buds. LOL!

I had a group of young actors over for a welcome-to-the-theatre type of party. I had asparagus in the fridge and wanted to use it and serve it cold. So, I go to Food Network.com and find this recipe. Sooooo simple and absolutely every one of those 20-something's loved it. I wish asparagus wasn't so expensive because it's a great appetizer. The problem is everyone loved it so much I'd have to buy four times the amount suggested to keep from running out in 5 min.

Also, cut the steaming time in half.

Awesome - although I added a little more garlic. One huge difference on my second try was to grill the asparagus which I am suprised I didn't do on the first. Brush the asparagus with olive oil and grill on each side for about 3 minutes; longer if you do not like it cruchy. I was a long time asparagus steamer until I tried it grilled. I will never go back again. Thanks Paula!

I've had asparagus before and thought they tasted okay so I tried this recipe. The Italian dressing was good (didn't make the yucky mayo sauce. I just didn't like the taste of the asparagus. They had a weird bitter earthy-type of taste. If someone really likes asparagus then I'm sure they'd enjoy this dish. I guess I'm just not one of those peeps.
