I found a recipe for preserved lemons-have them started on my cabinet even as we speak! Thanks for the Marrakesh Spice recipe--I'm going in to mix it up immediately. LATER Just made it--the grandkids ate it up and my daughter is making it for her husband. I added 1/2tsp. tumeric, mace, & cardamon to the spice. I would double the broth so you have more sauce.

I did some research and found a recipe for Marrakesh Spice using spices I have in my pantry. I have no idea if this is similar to what the Savory Spice Shop sells. But, I used the following mixture (makes slightly more than the 2 Tblsp. needed in the recipe and the chicken was fantastic!
    • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
    • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 3/4 teaspoon black pepper
    • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
    • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne
    • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
    • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

Somehow my earlier comments disappeared. On a food site it seems silly to criticize a recipe for including ingredients you may not have in your pantry. The spice blend here is available, and described, on the Savory Spice Shop's website. It is their version of the Moroccan Spice blend ras el hannout which translates to "top of the shop." In Morocco spice merchants have their own special blends of spices, etc. that may include more than 20 different ingredients.

You can find the ingredients for the spice mix at Epicurious but I agree that this should be provided on here. Also, you can make your own preserved lemon, they are wonderful!!! No, I haven't made this yet, just saw the show a few minutes ago, but I will make it when I get my ingredients together. . . AFTER the snow storm!!

I, too, don't like these recipes that require special ingredients. I'm reluctant to buy (if I could even find it the Moroccan spice, which is probably expensive, and may not get used often enough to stay fresh. I'm also quite sure I wouldn't find preserved lemons here in Maine. However, the recipe looks wonderful, and I wish there were substitutions available for the above ingredients.

I am so tired of these great recipes, that require spice and flavorings I can't get here in Daytona Beach. No recipe is worth orderinga spice to see if I am going to like it or not.

So are we supposed to just imagine what "Moroccan spice" might consist of?? And the spices are what's supposed to really make this dish but they don't give a clue what they might be. But the Foodnetwork people never read these reviews anyway, so they never get corrected or ammended............we're on our own here. Good luck.

In my experience, it is best to use a recipe as just sort of a guideline. So, if it is not spicy enough for you, put in more heat!! You are allowed to adjust to your heart's (or palate's pleasure.

As for the aspersion cast on Republicans, that is silly. Don't bring politics in to eating, and leave our Paula alone!
