My wife and I loved this dish! I cooked it in a crock pot 1hr on high and 3 hours on low. Next time will add an additional hour on low. I will also try adding some red wine in with the water. People's comments about over-seasoning caused me to under season mine, but that'll be easy to correct next time.

Paula out did herself this time. I made these for New Year's dinner and everyone enjoyed them. I had a few guests and two children who had never tried them, everyone went back for seconds.

Followed it to a tee.
BUT instead of water, I added:
-2Tbs tomato paste, 1/3 cup red wine, 1 cup chicken broth
-added red onions w/ox tail
-added potatoes and celery the last 45 min of cooking
-cooked this total of 3hrs 15 min.
This recipe taught me that the oven works great! (specially if your oven has a timer and turns itself off!
Had this with Jasmine rice..very good, soft, tasty and flavorful.
The wine makes it perfect!

Tried this recipe over the weekend. Both my husband and myself absolutely loved it!. Very simple to make. One thing I did different was I put some red wine in the bottom of my pan and then filled to 1/4 up with water. I will add extra onion to cook in the liquid part - liked the onions. I also think I will not "butter" the rice and just spoon broth from the pan over the rice.
NOTE-just want to stress do not use the whole recipe of House Seasoning on the ox tails. This is the recipe for a bulk amount. I used a couple of Tablespoons of the House Seasoning to season the meat. Keep the rest in an airtight container in your cabinet. I especially like to use this to season my rack of ribs before cooking.

this was DELICIOUS! and yes i have to echo others for the newcomers NOT TO DUMP ALL THE HOUSE SEASONING in the recipe. you use it to SEASON TO YOUR TASTE. i followed everything to the T and it was a huge hit w/ the family...even w/ the picky eaters. the oxtail was so tender and the broth/gravy so flavorful and delicious. i will definitely make this again and i'm sure many times. the oxtail was PERFECT but i would love to see how this would taste w/ different meat. the oxtail is a little expensive and w/ a family of 6 that can add up. everyone has got to try this. so easy AS LONG AS YOU READ THE DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY. oh and i don't think you really need the buttered rice. the rice was better w/ the broth/gravy. so GOOOOOOD! you are the best Paula Deen!
