Ingredients

  • 1 quart water
  • 4 family size tea bags (recommended: Luzzienne)
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 bunch mint leaves
  • 1 lemon, slices for garnish

Directions

In a large pot bring the water to a boil. Remove pot from heat, add the tea bags, cover with a lid, and allow tea to steep in water for 20 minutes. Take a 1 gallon jug and pour the sugar into the jug and cover with some hot tap water. Stir the sugar around to dissolve while the tea is steeping. Once the tea has steeped, remove the lid and the tea bags. Pour the tea into the jug with the sugar, stir, and place the tea bags back into the jug. Stir the tea well, making sure the sugar dissolves. Fill the jug with cold water to yield 1 gallon.

To serve, pour each glass of tea and garnish with a slice of lemon and mint leaves.

    Add the mint

Rated: 3 stars out of 5
I agree with an earlier reviewer who suggested adding one mint tea bag in with the others and letting them steep together. ... The mint does not overpower the tea, but gives it a little extra zip. I always make my tea without sugar (and I live in the South). Then guests can add it or not.Read more

For You Mint and Lemon Lovers

Rated: 4 stars out of 5
This recipe is very similar to my grandmother's recipe, but I agree, not enough mint, and I like a little more lemon, too. ... To get that extra hint of mint you're looking for, add a mint tea bag (Bigelow makes a good one) to the tea bags called for in the recipe and steep with the regular tea. To add a little more lemon (just a bit more so as not to make it like a tea flavored lemonade) stir in 1/4 cup frozen lemonade at the end. I also agree with other reviewers who thought that half as much sugar is plenty. Or better yet -- try Splenda. Tastes great without all the guilt!Read more

Enjoyed by every one every summer

I love sweet tea and this was great! But you have two options for the minty flavor, mull the mint in the tea (once its... brewed, like if your making a mojito) or you can boil the mint leaves and make mint tea next combine it with the ice tea and sugar or simple sugar.Read more

I cannot believe how refreshing this tea, very easy to make as you do not have to cook a simple syrup.
