It's definately moist and easy but doesn't taste like anything. The recipe needs tweaking by adding more salt and sugar, wish I had read the reviews before making it but I don't see them on my I-phone. Maybe my palate has been abused by the likes if Jiffy as one other post mentioned because I would have preferred Jiffy to this batch of cornbread. Although I am not prepared to throw out the receipe just yet because it easy and moist will make adjustments to add some flavor.

    Hey Paula,
This is a great recipe and my 80 year old mother loved it. I did not have buttermilk so we added vinegar to whole milk and it did great. Was making dressing with it. Baked it in a loaf pan and it was so pretty and most importantly delicious. My mother at two slices and wanted more. :- Thank you, Shari

This is definitely not Paula's best recipe for cornbread that you will serve as a side dish with your meal. Following the recipe exactly I ended up with a pan of cornbread that was dry, a little bitter and dense. I ended up using it for my cornbread stuffing. Here's how I tweaked the recipe to make it moist and tasty so I could serve it as a stand alone side. I used 3 tbsp of sugar and only 3/4 cup buttermilk rather than the 1 1/2 cup in recipe. I also added about 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup sour cream (unfortunately, I didn't measure exactly, just scooped out of the sour cream container, but guessing it was between 1/4 and 1/2 cup.

I also followed eaj35's advice and added a good amount of sugar to it, as well as doubled the salt and it turned out alright. It was not super moist as advertised, though.

This was NOT good at all. I made this for Thanksgiving 2011. I tried it twice and even used a different buttermilk and added more sugar and it still tasted pretty bad. Sorry Paula...I'll try something else.

This was horrible-I wish I would've read the reviews before I made it. I actually never review recipes-but really had to with this one, it really was not good at all. I knew that I should've added more sugar 1T is just not enough. ugh

I followed eaj35's suggested tweeks to the recipe and it's awesome! I even used 1% milk instead of buttermilk which I didn't have on hand at the time and it came out great. It's even better than the recipe I've been using for years....thank-you!

Definitely not the best I've ever made. However, with tweaking it like the other reviewers suggested it totally worked with our chili night. Next time I might add honey instead of sugar.

I was so disappointed with this recipes! I thought that this kind of thing would be Paula Dean's specialty. The texture is nice, but it doesn't taste like anything. I read some of the suggestions below (adding more sugar and salt, which might help but I think I am just going to find a different recipe.

Some of the best cornbread I've ever made ! Might I add that I'm 76 yrs old and have made cornbread many many times. The only addition to the bread would be 1 tsp. salt and about 3 Tbs sugar. I will definately make this again! Thanks, Paula
