I like the idea of baking instead of boiling the potatoes. This made for better tasting potatoes. The yams were delicious, especially the second day when the potatoes had time to marinate.

I didnt really care for these. I saw the episode and couldnt wait to make these but it was a big dissapointment. The syrup was nowhere near thick and not at all what I expected. I will not make sweet potatoes this way again.

After reading the rave reviews, I was so anxious to make these yams. I thought the flavor was just okay. I guess I am use to candied yams with more of a cinnamon flavor and also vanilla flavoring. After tasting the sauce my husband asked me to doctor it with cinnamon and vanilla, but the flavor never did reach our expectations. My sauce never really thickened the way I thought it should have. I actually let it simmer for an hour. I have loved all of Paula's recipes that I have tried except this one.

I first tasted these at The Lady and Sons restaurant in Savannah, and they are the most absolutely awesome sweet potatoes that I've ever eaten - sweet, but not gooey, and melt in your mouth! You can bet that I will make them often. Paula, thanks for sharing this recipe!
