This pie is the best chocolate pie ever, well after I put my own spin on it. To this recipe I add about a third of a cup of heavy creme and a teaspoon of mint extract. The original pie was great though, I just made it so often that way that I felt comfortable changing it up.

I made this last year after the holidays and my husban and I love it. I'm making it this year for our family Christmas dinner. I made it exactly as the directions say and I had no problems at all.

To begin, this was the easiest pie to make. I had no problems with it. I melted the butter (I did use real butter and chocolate together and then took it off the burner and stirred in the sugar before adding the eggs (I wasn't sure if the eggs would start to cook, then used a mixer to make sure everything was blended. Put it in a pre-made frozen pie crust (regular and baked as directed. I wasn't sure how it would turn out since it got a 'crust' on top, but after it cooled I did put it in the refrigerator overnight before serving and it was absolutely perfect. The inside looked like fudge. It wasn't grainy as I was worried about. I will definitely make again- and again. I'm a novice pie maker, but even this turned out superb. Thanks Paula.

There must be something wrong with this recipe, because the pie tasted horrible, and I had to throw it away.
What a waste of good chocolate.

Despite Paul's love of butter and all things sweet, this recipe was a failure in my dessert book. It was nothing special when it came down to it and dissapointing in taste.

    Keep searching.

This pie is super easy to make, I did not have any of the problems others experienced. I did add 1 T of flour as recommended by another reviewer, but I highly DO NOT recommend doing this. It really took away from the flavor. My mom made the pie before without it and it turned out much better. I did let the pie cool in the oven and it did not collapse (note: it is a much thinner pie than most. I used a regular size crust and would recommend a pastry crust rather than a frozen or graham cracker crust- these crusts would be too heavy for such a thick pie. I personally liked the pie better the second day and cold from the refrigerator. Bottom line: it was okay, for a good, quick dessert it was a good pie, but far from the best chocolate pie I have ever had.

I have made this several times because everyone in my family loves this! It has the best flavor of chocolate. Not too sweet, but just rich enough for any chocolate lover to enjoy. I just topped it with whipped cream. The first time I made it, I mistakenly used an already-baked pie crust and you could hardly get your fork through it! You just can't go wrong with Paula Deen! I love her and love all her recipes. She is the best!!

This pie is awesome. I watched Paula make this pie on her show and she added the butter, chocolate and sugar together on the stove until everything melted. I know the recipe says to remove from the heat before you add the sugar. I'm not sure if this makes a difference with the pie firming up or not, but I added everything together like Paula did on her show, and mine was perfect. Also, after 25 minutes, I turned the oven off, cracked the oven door and let the pie sit for about 7 - 10 minutes. (This will help prevent the pie from caving in.
