My boyfriend has been trying to get me to make a country-style meatloaf for him like his grandmother used to do when he was a kid. When I saw this recipes and read the reviews, it seemed like a good fit. I was a bit worried that it would be bland since it doesn't call for any spices. Well, it was quite delicious and juicy. The topping sauce brought all the flavors together. My boyfriend was like a happy little boy and just pigged out. I really enjoyed it also and kind of pigged out myself. I followed the recipe exactly, but used fresh diced tomato instead of canned(exactly 8 oz, juices and all, as stated in the recipe, and 1/2 cup panko bread crumbs instead of 1/2 cup rolled oats, because that's what I had on hand--i don't own oatmeal or eat much from cans.... I am going to share this recipe with all of my friends who enjoy old-fashioned country cooking.

Excellent recipe - I also add a package of Lipton Onion Soup Mix and it really adds a lot of flavour!

YUMMY!!! I decided to use some ground up crackers, and a bit of left over fried onions with half the called for amount of oatmeal. I also use a lean ground beef so I was afraid it would be dry. I used some bacon strips on top and it was very moist and perfect texture. I took the advice of the other raters and did took the diced tomato's out of the juice, and gave them a rough chop. Can't say enough about this recipe! Will DEFINITELY be cooking this again!

Thought this was a great recipe. All the ingredients are always on hand, so it is quick and easy. Be careful when adding the tomatoes and make sure you are using the 8 oz. can and not the standard can that is 15 oz. When I read a can of diced tomatoes I just assume it is the standard can. We loved it.

I gave this 4 stars and followed the recipe exactly how Paula wrote it. My meatloaf held together pretty well, it was not a soggy mess, however it wasn't as tight as I personally would have liked it. Once it was cut, I noticed it fell apart easily. The ingredients were easy, and the sauce was perfect on top, HOWEVER it lacked a bit of seasoning and I cant figure out what...
maybe a dash more salt? it was a bit bland to me, but for meatloaf it was still better than I ever expected.
