My mom started making this meatloaf almost 45 years ago when I was a child and I still make it myself! I do have a few adds though. PLEASE KEEP in mind that this is a BASIC RECIPE so those of you who say its bland need to learn how to modify it for your taste. Oatmeal is a very healthy alternative to bread... Good fiber for one! I like to add 1/2 teas. EACH: marjoram, basil, and/or rosemary. Sometimes I add ketchup in place of tomatoes. I always double the recipe (because it makes awesome sandwiches for next day lunch and mix well with my hands. Let the meatloaf sit for 10 minutes to cool and set-up for easier cutting. Because of this, I hardly ever have to worry about the meatloaf falling apart! Enjoy this recipe! A very similar recipe used to be on the Quaker Oatmeal box!

This was my first attempt to making a meatloaf. I had to open the door and windows when making this dish. I had so much oil seeping down my oven,i had no idea burger meat would produce so much grease. I plan to eat it tomorrow ,praying all taste well...for the newbees watch the oven for grease produced by the beef.

I made this recipe today and doubled it since I have 2 pounds of beef. I formed it into 2 loaves. I didn't have tomatoes...only garden style pasta sauce. I put it into the blender to chop up all the veggies thoroughly. I omitted the bell pepper and onion and used worchester sauce annd bread crumbs. It was great! I'll make it again. Very good and easy recipe.

Awesome! I tried making a meatloaf about 10yrs ago - failed miserably and never attempted again, until now. I took some suggestions from the other reviewers, sautéed the onions, bell peppers and garlic in 1 tablespoon of butter and used rotell instead of regular diced tomatoes. I also substituted the salt & pepper for Cajun seasoning to add even more spice. I think the topping called for too much mustard so I cut that in half as well as the brown sugar. We just arent fans of super sweet glaze on meats. It was a huge success! I will definitely make this again. Thank you!!

Simple recipe to make, but the onions and peppers did not soften enough when finished cooking. Next time I'm going to saute them before mixing with beef. Topping was pretty good and I usually hate ketchup toppings.

Really Good! I was out of onions & canned tomatoes so I used pizza sauce for the mix into the meatloaf and used bread crumbs instead of oatmeal. The paste I substituted tomato paste for ketchup and added extra brown sugar. Everyone loved it. It fed 3 of us not 4. Husband wants it 3x a week. Sot this will probably go on my once a month meal planner. Thanks Paula Deen!

Great recipe but I changed mine jus a tad bit. Instead of diced tomatoes I use rotel sauce drained just a lil, panko bread crumbs not oats I also use tex-joy steak seasoning. I must say this is my husbands new favorite meat loaf. I literally have to make this once at least every week or two.

Honestly this is a very good recipe, however I add 1/4 teaspoon italian seasoning, and instead of canned tomatoes I use marinara sauce. I always use a red bell pepper since it is sweet, sometimes I use 1/4 cup of grated carrot as well (to get veggies in without anyone noticing. I make this recipe quite often, but I usually top it with BBQ sauce. My fiance loves it!

Sorry, but there's not much great I can say about this recipe. It was bland. I did not care for the canned tomatoes in it. And the onions and bell pepper were too crunchy...not sure why unless it was because it was cooked at a relatively high temperature so the onions and peppers didn't have enough time to cook to a soft texture. The topping was good, but there wasn't enough of it to flavor each bite. I would recommend making extra so that you can dip each bite. But mostly I would just not recommend making this recipe at all. I will keep searching for the perfect meatloaf recipe.
