Super YUM!! I was going to use beef broth (as suggested in prior posts but only had vegetable broth. I substituted one cup of water for one cup of vegetable broth. I also omitted the allspice/clove because I didn't have any and l used 3 cloves of garlic, which I chopped and left in because our family loves garlic. This dish is so awesome that my boyfriend did a "quality check" every few minutes during the last 1/2 hour of cooking. Also, my picky kids ate it right up. Will definately make this again.

This is a GREAT Stew....simple and delicious! I put a bit more than a dash of Allspice because I like that flavor and added peas!! Served with a side of mashed potatoes in a bowl.... Really yummy!

I just made this recipe last night. It is a good basic recipe and you can adjust it to your taste. I used beef roast not beef stew(my grocery store did not had beef stewand I added veggies(sweet p., carrots, mushrooms I also brown the meet in Olive oil not vegetable oil, just because I like it better and after browning meat I thru everything else(except veggiesin the crock pot for 8 hours on low. A couple hours before it was done I thru the veggies and it was perfect! Again, is a simple recipe and you can add as much as you want. Oh! I almost forgot to mention I did use beef broth not water.

I absolutely love this beef stew. It's been a huge success with the men in my life. It's so easy to make and so tasty. I wish there were more veggies in the stew itself, but it's nothing a side dish can't make up for.

OK...been making beef stew for more years than I am going to mention here but this is the only recipe that I will be making from here on out. After reading reviews, which I always do before hand, I only used beef stock (no water at all and uped some of the seasoning, used some of Emerils' "bam" on the meat, a lot more garlic and onions, and of course added cubed potatoes. I mixed the corn startch with about half of a cup of beef stock and added it directly to the pot with no problem at all. This is a great stew recipe. Easy and can be adapted to anyones' personal taste.

Very good, go easy on the salt if you're adding beef broth....
This is spicy, and the cloves are the perfect finishing touch. I'm glad I learned something new, I never would have put cloves in a stew before

I made this recipe in my slow cooker because many other reviews had an issue with the recipe being somewhat bland. I figured using the slow cooker would let the broth/gravy develop the flavors more than using the stove top - and it turned out great! No browning of the beef was needed, and I just used a few more dashes of Worcestershire. Throw everything in the cooker besides the corn starch, and let it sit on low for 8-10 hrs or on high for 4-5 hours, then add the corn starch about 30 min before serving!

This was excellent! Added mushrooms sautéed with butter and red wine. Added potatoes too with the carrots and celery. Used red pepper as did not have paprika on hand. Husband loved the kick and helped him with his cold. Sure to make again. Thanks Paula.
