My husband loved it but as other reviewers noted, this is classic home cooking which is perfect in winter. Used beef broth diluted with water to add flavor. Also added potatoes and last minute, added peas...go easy on the salt.

This beef stew is so easy to make and filled with flavor. My boyfriend likes me to make a "bowl" out of skin-on red mashed potatoes and put the beef stew in that. He also loves to take the leftovers with him since he drives truck over the road. It's easy for him to reheat and better than then truck stop food!!!

Just made this today. It had a wonderful flavor, and the beef was very tender by the time it was finished. However, I agree with the other reviewers. It absolutely needs potatoes. The celery and onions cook down, and you are left with just meat and carrots. But a definite winner in our house; will make again!

Great recipe! Used 1 bay leaf, added some peas, red potatoes, & used extra beef broth...was wonderful ! Tons of juice, tons of flavor, hearty & healthy. Served it over egg noodles. The man raved about it all evening. This one will go into the "my favorites" folder. THANKS PAULA !!

This was easy and a good stew. I added potatoes as I don't think my family would know that it was stew without potatoes. I also diced the onion as they "don't eat onions." I used beef broth instead of water and cooked in the crock pot. the smell all night was wonderful!

This is the best beef stew I've eaten in a LONG time! It was super delicious & really easy to make! I didn't even have any bay leaves, so I just threw in another clove of garlic and it was super good! Served over potatoes, it's even better! I'm happy to have found a great, easy beef stew recipe that tastes like beef stew should - just simple and good. I will be using this recipe every time I make beef stew from now on! Thanks so much for an awesome recipe!

I made this recipe last night and altered it a little. I didn't have Worchestershire sauce, so I used soy sauce instead. Surprisingly, you couldn't tell. Secondly, I added 2 beef boullion cubes and 2 extra cups of water because the original recipe didn't look like it would feed 6 people. Thirdly, I added about 4 large potatoes because, frankly, what's beef stew without potatoes? After all that, it fed my family of seven with a couple of small second helpings. I think if it was served in a bread bowl, it would have stretched a little bit farther. My family gobbled it down and said that it was the best they've ever eaten.

This stew is so easy and has a great flavor. Much easier and better than a similar recipe by Ina Garten. I used beef broth instead of water. Try adding a can of condensed french onion soup at the end if you need more liquid. Also - buy a good quality (more expensive stew meat - its worth it.

I took the advise of others and added potatoes to this receipe. Hearty, easy to make, and doesn't make a huge mess of the kitchen to prepare. Flavor could be tweaked to be a little better, but overall it was good and worth another shot.
