I used this recipe and doubled everything to make a big batch for Christmas Eve. I ended up using mostly beef broth and only a little water, added more worcestershire, and added some red potatoes. Everyone loved it. Thanks Paula for a yummy classic tasting stew!

We're just fininshing our meal and it is excellent! I think that I would add a bit more flavor next time, maybe a bit more Worcestshire or garlic but it is excellent as it is in the recipe! Great with bread and butter.

This was good, but nothing too exciting. I cooked it all in a slow cooker which made the meat really tender, but in general there just weren't enough spices.

I am not sure what everyone else is talking about but I had TONS of liquid in my stew at the end. I think you may have cooked it too high temp. It does need potatoes (I am putting mine over mashed this time...Next time red or sweet potatoes are going in. If you use potatoes you probably do need to add water because they soak it all up. Serve with buttered rolls and YUMMY YUMMY!

I was never a big fan of stew until I tried this one. Try it you will like it. I did add potatoes as I did not make the casserole. We sopped up the delicious gravy with sourdough bread. Time to go walk!!!!
