I added beef stock and boullion, and doubled the liquid. I also added potatoes to mine. The spices are so good in this meal and it really sticks with you. Great for football nights now that it's getting cold. Great job Paula!!

This stew was excellent. Like some other I used beef stock instead of water, added potatoes, and cooked it a little longer than suggested. It came out very good. Letting it sit on the stove for a half hour or so after cooking is very important to letting all the flavors come together.

I enjoyed this one...the aroma that it left in my apartment might be even better..GREAT comfort food as it's getting cooler out in Minnesota.

I actually have a pot of this stew on my stove right now and my whole house smells warm and coozy. *Fantastic* comfort meal, very stick to your ribs on a chilly night. Very very easy, and even though its just fine as printed here, the base recipe is a perfect opportunity to experiment - I used a cup of beef stock and a cup of veggie stock instead of the two cups of water (use stock and not *broth*, added an extra clove of garlic, cut down the salt due to the stock, and added little new potatoes along with the carrots and celery. This is one of my five year old daughter's favorite and most requested meals - and come on, how many five year olds would choose beef stew over something like chicken nuggest or a burger !! You *know* it has to be good !
Much much much much better than the Martha Stewart recipe I have . . .

I like my stew spicier than this, although the low sodium eaters in our group thought it was fine. The recipe does not include any herbs, which I think would have really helped the flavor.

This stew IS great, however it needed more liquid! I found it did not have nearly enough "sauce/gravy" & also needed more vegetables. I threw potatos, peas, & corn in. DELICIOUS!!

Paula -- you are the Queen of comfort food! This is the best beef stew I have had in many a year. I recommend serving it over broad noodles -- the comfort food fans in the family clamored for more, and it freezes very well for a quick but delicious meal during the work week upon defrosting.

The stew was very delicious, but I had to add a little more salt and pepper because it wasnt seasoned enough for my taste. But all in all a great recipie!!
