Paula girl, my family LOVED this recipe. I read the other review on-line which were all great and I agree. The flavors in this dish are wonderful and soooo easy to make.....my kinda dish. My 14 year old ate seconds and thirds until the dish was gone.

My family loved it. Usually it takes my husband a while to warm up to new recipes, but he (and the rest of the family enjoyed it very much.

This has tons of flavor and gets it without adding a tomato base to it! Everyone loved it and it was really easy to make!

I really liked this recipe. I did have problems with the amount of liquid the recipe called for. I added 1 cup of water after browning 1lb of boneless chuck in 1 tsp of olive oil and then added another 1/2 cup water when I added the veggies. I threw in a handful of cherry tomatoes which added some liquid and tartness with the carrots and celery.
The flavor is great because of the spices. I didnt have allspice so I used 3 cloves. I added only one bay leaf. I threw in 2 small cloves of chopped garlic and didn't take it out in the end. It became really soft so I mashed it in.
I added cornstarch directly to the pot and didnt have any problems. It will pry turn out fine without the cornstarch.
It was a tad too salty for me so Ill use 1/2 the amount of salt next time. I esp liked how I could taste the sugar.
I ate this with buttermilk biscuits from the Moosewood Low-fat cookbook. Yum!

This was so easy to make. I chopped the carrots, celery and onions ahead so I was able to toss everything in when I was ready to cook. I only used 1lb of beef but left all the other proportions the same. I did the same as a previous reviewer and added 1 cup of water when I added the veggies because a lot of the water cooked down after an hour or so. And just mixed cornstarch with water and added to stew, didnt bother mixing with hot liquid and it was fine. I added canned mushrooms with my veggies and will also add potatoes next time.

The flavor of the beef stew was very tasty. I would however cook veggies a little longer overall. But I would make again.

This is an easy dish to make and has a nice flavor. I did have a problem with the liquid. If you only put two cups of liquid in at the beginning and then cook it for 1 1/2 hrs., and then cook it again after adding the vegetables, you are not going to have 2 cups left to remove for gravy. I ended up adding a cup of water when I added the vegetables. It is also not necessary to remove the liquid to thicken. I just mixed the cornstarch and water until smooth and then added it to the stew in the pot. It worked out just fine.
