I saw Paula make this cake back during the Christmas holidays. I thought I am going to give this a try. So, I did. I did everything to a T.. The cake turned out and my family loved it at Christmas. This is the first thing I have ever tried to make scratch. Can I say I was stoked... Thanks Paula.. since then I have tried the blueberry cream tarts and today I am going to try the Cherry Crean cheese pie...

This recipe was A-MAZING! I made this as my birthday cake a few weeks ago and it came out perfect! I am not usually a fan of vanilla cakes but this one definitely outshines the rest. '

One thing I would do different next time is I would make the filling first. As the directions are laid out, it appears you would do that last and since that takes the longest to set up (4 hours I would do that first. As others have stated, this is time consuming so make sure you carved out enough time.

I would also mention this is a very dense cake and very sweet. If you are trying to figure out how many people this cake would serve, think small pieces.

Hi Paula, I was a little overwhelmed with this recipe. It took most of the day to make and my filling never got thick like it should have. When I put it on the cake it became runny. When I put the cake with the filling in the freezer it stiffened a little more. I put the icing on it and am hoping for the best. I will know if people liked it tonight at the party.

This was the best cake. I made this cake for New Years. Everyone loved it. I made the filling and frosting the day before the cake. I used 2 round 10 inch cake pans and sliced them so it was a 4 layer cake. The filling wasn't as thick but it worked out great. I will be making this cake again.

Although time consuming, this cake was FABULOUS!!, I don't know what the others encountered, but my cake was rich, moist and delicious!! I served it to company and everyone raved about it!! Thanks Paula!

After reading the last few reviews I was a little leary of making this cake, but it was for my daughter's birthday and she insisted she still wanted it. Since everyone said it was dry I used two 9 inch cake pans instead of three. Of course it took about 15 minutes longer than it was supposed to and it still wasn't "Ooey Gooey" but,it was definately moist and delicious. A wonderful cake. I can't comment on the butter filling or frosting because she wanted chocolate but at least the dry cake problem is solved. I'll make it again if a butter cake is ever requested!

Way too much work for such a lack luster cake. It's one of those situations where despite the number of poor reviews I thought I could pull it off because I consider myself an above average baker. I was wrong... all negative reviews have merit. I love so many of Paula's recipes but this one cannot be salvaged imo.

This cake was very time consuming and not worth the time. The filling took 45-60 minutes to thickening. The cake is very bland with no test at all. It is a very heavy and dry cake. My family was not impressed at all and very disappointed due to the fact I put in all the time to make it. I love Paula Deen but will not recommend this recipe to anyone to do and I will not do this cake again
