This cake was very time consuming and not worth the time. The filling took 45-60 minutes to thickening. The cake is very bland with no test at all. It is a very heavy and dry cake. My family was not impressed at all and very disappointed due to the fact I put in all the time to make it. I love Paula Deen but will not recommend this recipe to anyone to do and I will not do this cake again

Agree with Mr. Walker and others I have also made the cake for Christmas it did not hold up to it's name no ooey , or gooey... but definitely buttery. I agree there are better recipe than this one.
Have made many of her recipe also over the years not the best one.

Not worth the effort, time and labor for a rather mediocre cake with no depth of flavor. Followed the recipe precisely and I'm a decent baker. The cake was very heavy similar to poundcake with the high butter content. The filling was ok but nothing special for the amount of time to thicken it (about 35 min and the 4 hours chill time. Frosting probably would have benefitted from 2 cups less of the powdered sugar. The amount of effort put into it had everyone excited but it was a Christmas flop! Tasted a little better the day after but could have made 4 or 5 other spectacular desserts in the time spent on this cake. Love Paula but this one is a pass.......

This recipe was very labor intensive and the work was NOT worth the result. I usually love Paula's recipes and make them multiple times, but I will not be making this one again. I thought the cake lacked flavor and did not care for the spongy texture. The frosting was way too sweet. I did like the filling, though.

This cake was very labor intensive for less than mediocre results. The cake had a strange texture--very dense yet chewy/spongy and was bland. The filling was the best part but it didn't really complement the cake. The frosting was like a sickening sweet buttercream, rather than a cream cheese type.

The only problem I had was the filling. Did not thicking like Paula said. Wished her show would have let you see what the filling looked like.

This receipe was definitely a challenge, but I didn't have any problems my butter filling came out perfect, however it does have to cook longer then 20 mintues I think I cooked mine for at least 30 or 40 and I didn't have any lumps or weird consistency. I will say this, it's a very stiff and sweet cake. Once you take the cake out the freezer and put the icing on it, I would let it sit ou and un-thaw before eating it. Also if you don't follow the directions specifically this cake will not turn out good.

I made this cake today just for fun. The butter filling did not turn out well at all. It contains 3 eggs and you're supposed to put it back on the double boiler right after adding the eggs. I was afraid I would get scrambled eggs! Some of the egg mixture did cook on the sides of the bowl. The cream cheese wouldn't fully combine with the thickened egg mixture and it ended up with a strange consistency. I would try to find a different filling recipe.

The cake itself was delicious and very buttery, as anticipated. The frosting was delicious as well.
