This is the most delicious recipe for oyster stew I have found. My 92-year old father, who remembers this dsh from his childhood, absolutely loved it. I read the posted reviews and decided to use ALL of the suggested additions : The stew was delicious. I, too, used heavy whipping cream instead of half-and-half. I also added more oysters than called for in the recipe. Then, I added:
boiled potatoes
1 can Campbell's ready to serve clam chowder (couldn't find cream of oyster
chopped celery
crumbled bacon

I loved this recipe! I added boiled red potatoes, cut up in small chunks, and i also cheated a little by adding a can of Campbell's condensed oyster stew for added flavor :

We've always used chopped celery in oyster stew (saute with the onions. It makes all the difference! Some chopped parsley is also a great addition. This is great!

This was an awesome recipe and SOOOO easy. I used heavy whipping cream also which gave it a really rich flavor, and added some "Slap yo Momma" spice to give it a little kick!!! Really good!!

This recipe brought back so many memories. My mother just passed away and I remember when she would make this stew on a cold day and she use to add the little crackers. I just miss her so much but I just know she is smiley down from heaven

This wonderfully easy recipe brought back sweet memories of my childhood. Many Saturday nights we would have this great stew. You can easily leave out the onions if you prefer...still wonderful. TIP: Mother always served sweet pickles on the side...gerkins, mixed sweets or bread&butter...yummy! Also, some of the family would add a big squirt of ketchup. My oldest sister would eat so much & get so full that she would have to lay down on the floor under the table to recuperate...we always had a good laugh at her antics. Like I said the recipe takes me back to my childhood 63yrs ago in SC. Thanks Paula for spreading the joy!

I followed the simple instructions and it turned out great! Good flavor and easy to make. I chooped the oysters once done and should've added more, next time! I used jar packed oysters for this recipe.
