My 11 year old niece made this pie for a picnic we were having this past Saturday. It was amazing. She only used 17 apples. She did not think we had a bowl big enough to make the top. It was gone by the end of the day. Expected to be aroynd for awhile. We ate it straight out of the bowl.

People, the diameter of the bowl will depend on the size of your pie pan. AND..as the recipe says..."24 apples, depending on the size of your bowl" It's NOT that difficult.....How high do you want your pie?

I made this pie on Thanksgiving and it lasted an entire week of servings! Amazed, yes. I was just wondering if anyone experienced having a huge gap between the top of the apples and then the roof of the inside crust? I made the exact amount of slits needed but there was still a gap. I plan on making this pie again for Christmas and wanted to eliminate the gap. Any suggestions/ solutions?

I saw the show on Sat and made the pie today. I used a smaller stainless steel bowl and 17 apples (added my own little thing to it too. It is a hit at my restaurant! Thanks Paula. Oh yea, made more of the streusel, rolled it in an unbaked pie shell, cut it like a cinnamon roll, and topped it with homemade buttercream icing. WOW!

This apple pie is amazing! If I can make it, anyone can make it.
It does take sometime but worth the look on friends and familys faces.
    The dish was wiped cleaned.

I made this for a birthday and he look on his face was priceless. For my filling, I used a clean Kitchen Aid mixing bowl and the apples slid right out and looked awesome when turned into the crust. Cutting the pie is almost comedic, but we treated it just like any other pie. The pieces are gigantic so sharing is a must.
