This recipe is absolutely yummy, but everyone is correct on the cooking temp - 350 or 375 at the most or your crust will never make it to the end.
As for the comment about too much lemon - this recipe does not specify an apple type, and there is a massive range of flavors, from bland to rich, and sweet to tart. Granny Smiths are plenty tart and do not require any additional lemon juice. Jonathans are also tart. If you use a very sweet apple like Delicious, Fuji, or Rome, you would need the full amount of lemon juice recommended. For middle of the road varieties like Winesap, Braeburn, and Jonagolds, you can adjust to taste. Certain apples, especially McIntosh, taste good but are not good for baking as they turn to mush.

Yes this pie was great, but the person posting the recipe should be checking the cook times and temperatures. I baked mine at 450 for 25 minutes when I noticed the crust was burning. I turned the temperature down to 350 and let it cook for over 20 more minutes but the bottom crust still didn't brown up.

All in all the pie was very good - I think the lemon was too much- next time I will use a little less. The oven temp was definitely too hot - I would probably cook it at 400 degrees next time and cover the edges of the crust until the last 10 minutes so that it doesn't burn.

I have never been good at baking pies. This recipe is not only the easy, but the taste is awesome! I will definitely be making this Apple Pie again, and again. However, I did take the advice of others and baked at 350 degrees. It came out perfect. Thanks for keeping it simple Paula...

Pie was excellent! I noticed half way through that the crust had already browned, so I covered it with foil and let it continue cooking at 450.

This was the recipe I used to make my first ever Pie. I didn't make the crust, I bought it at the store, since I don't have a mixer, but the filling is awesome. Its very simple. I didn't use all the apples, because I thought it would be too full. I used 4, but I think I could have used 5. This is a great recipe!

450 degrees to bake a apple pie? It's no wonder so many bakers burnt their pie! Next time try 350, and the crust should be a golden brown in about 45 to 50 mins. Dana

We made this today and the pie was very good. We agree with what was said before - the crust burns. Ours started burning about 20 minutes into baking. We'll definitely lower the temperature next time.

Paula always offers up recipes that while they are a Cardiologist?s worst nightmare, they are too tempting to turn down. I?ll spend an extra hour on the treadmill for just a small piece!
