Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup crunchy peanut butter
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 to 3 ripe bananas
  • 8 slices white bread
  • Topping:
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
Directions

In a frying pan, melt 3 tablespoons of the butter. Make sure butter does not burn. In a small bowl mix together the peanut butter, honey, and cinnamon. Slice the bananas into 1/4-inch thick slices. Spread the peanut butter mixture on 4 slices of bread and cover with banana slices. Top with the remaining 4 slices of bread. Spread the remaining butter on both sides of the sandwiches. Grill the sandwiches in the frying pan until each side is golden brown.

For topping, combine the sugar and cinnamon in shallow plate. Coat the grilled sandwiches with the mixture. Cut diagonally and serve hot.

WOW! This was delicious, I just made it for my family and they loved it, too! Definitely a lunch or snack, very sweet. I love sweets but I used half as much sugar and cinnamon for the topping and its still plenty. It is just like a churro filled with gooey peanut butter and bananas, freakin delish! Also, to make it easier maybe a little healthier, i added about 2.5 TBS butter to make sandwiches in. Instead of also buttering the bread, i just took out the sandwiches and added another 1.5 TBS to flip and cook the other side in. If you top the 1st cooked side with the topping while you're waiting, it stays on better. item not reviewed by moderator and published

My family and I loved this recipe, not something to eat all the time because of all the sugar and butter. item not reviewed by moderator and published
It was so tasty and my husband loved it... item not reviewed by moderator and published
I've been making this for years without the honey. Also delicious with a touch of cream cheese in there. If you're feeling really adventurous try with a strip or 2 of bacon. O.M.G. : item not reviewed by moderator and published
I thought this was delicious...and I'm not a sweets person but wow. I made this for my son and i almost wanted to steal it from him. Next time I'll make one for myself. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Bananas & penut butter, not a good combination :( item not reviewed by moderator and published
So easy and delicious! item not reviewed by moderator and published
It wasnt that great. Will not make again. I hated the added sugar and cinnamon most of all. I cant believe this was elvis' favorite! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I really enjoyed this, but I did cut down on some of the butter because I thought it was a little excessive and unnecessary. My husband and I had this for lunch one day, and while it was tasty, it's one of those recipes that I will be making once in a great while. It was such a filling meal and I don't see how anyone could eat more than one sandwich. I was afraid that the cinnamon sugar coating on the bread was going to be too much, but it was delicious. I didn't use chunky peanut butter like the recipe called for, I just used regular. I think chunky peanut butter might be too rich for our tastes. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Haven't tried this yet, but plan to very soon. Sounds wonderful! One concern is the fat and calories. I might use lite bread, and instead of the butter, just spray a skillet with Pam. Also, could decrease the amount of honey in the PB and watch the portions used to make the sandwiches. May be able to limit the damage to my backside and my arteries. But Paula, I DO love you so! Your food is just wonderful and you are so fun to watch. Keep up the great work, girl! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Episode:Gone Bananas,,was great, love bananas,Have a great day item not reviewed by moderator and published
Oh my gosh! This was so good. I grew up on peanut butter and banana sandwiches, and when I saw this I decided to give it a try for lunch. I didn't follow any measurments-just buttered a piece of bread and then put peanut butter on the other side, sliced the bananas over the PB and drizzled honey on it, buttered the other piece of bread and cooked it in the skillet. Then I dipped both sides in the cinnamon/sugar mix-It was SOOOO GOOD! give it a try-don't eat it every day - b/c it's not healthy, but a nice treat occasionally. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Had a bunch of bananas that we had to eat... found this recipe and decided to give it a try! Was a little questionable at first from reading all the reviews saying "TOO MUCH BUTTER" .. BUT! the recipe was perfect and delicious as it is. I mean, HELLO! It's Paula Deen, she's a southern woman who loves her butter & knows what she's doing! =) If you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen! Don't listen to the "too much butter" cmts, it's wonderfully sweet and delicious and perfect the way the recipe calls for. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I made the sandwich with cinnamon raison bread since i didnt have any white bread in the house and it was delicious very filing and inexpensive. Will definately make again for a quick breakfast item not reviewed by moderator and published
When I saw this recipe on tv, I was craving it for a few days,so I made it tonight and it was extremly sweet and filling. Too much butter. I just grease the pan with the buter instead. I could only eat half the sandwich. item not reviewed by moderator and published
When I was kid I use to eat fried pb sandwiches all the time. So when I saw this reciepe I was really excited. I like the flavor combinatiion of pb and bananas. But a made a few changes. I thought that 3 tbps was entirely too mutch butter. So I decrease that by quite a bit. I make one sandwich at time and I add only a little bit of butter just like when I make grilled cheese. The cinamon sugar topping is good, but I sometimes choose to omit it, because it makes it really sweet. I have used another reviewes suggestion and combined pb with nutella. That was good. While I do enjoy this sandwich. I can only eat it one on an occasional basis. One because its soooo sweet(I'm not really a sweet tooth), and two because its so fattening. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Thanks for easy way to use up a bunch of ripe bananas I was given. item not reviewed by moderator and published
when i tried this recipe i realized bananas where meant to be eaten ALONE, and i dont know if it was me but... too much butter! :s item not reviewed by moderator and published

This was very good & easy to make. A little messy to eat. Great for a dessert or breakfast. The cinnamon & sugar is what makes it. item not reviewed by moderator and published
These sandwiches were very good and could be used for any meal. I made it for breakfast and it was great with bacon for a sweet/savory mix but I'd make it any meal. The cinnamon sugar on the outside made it especially delicious. I never would've thought I'd like warm peanut butter and bananas but it really hit the spot. item not reviewed by moderator and published

great sandwich my wife doesnt normally like peanut butter and bananas but she and I both love this. It is so easy to make and is a great treat. I did use a bit less butter but was still rich and gooy. Thanks paula item not reviewed by moderator and published
I saw Paula Deen make this sandwich on her show and it looked so good and it was a recipe that actually looked easy. I made it for my family this morning and everyone loved it. My mom thought it would be a weird combination but when she tried it she loved it too. The best thing about this recipe is that it's both yummy and super easy. item not reviewed by moderator and published
My kids had so much fun making this with me. It is a very filling sandwich, but awesome. We left off the cinnamon and sugar on the outside and it was still YUMMY!!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I was really expecting something spectacular with it being one of Paula's recipes. But I really was not impressed. Either one thought that there wasn't enough peanut butter or someone else thought there wasn't enough bananas. It was just OK for us. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This was great! I made ti even simpler by just putting peanut butter on the bread, drizzling honey over it, and then sprinkling on some cinnamon. No need to mix it all together and dirty another dish. Delicious! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Fabulously and Sweet. Not an every Day kind of Sandwich, but definitely a Treat!! item not reviewed by moderator and published

This has to be one of my favorite sandwiches of all time! Once fried, the bananas and peanut butter mix melt together into one irresistably delicious combination! However, be prepared for a messy kitchen because peanut butter is a little hard to work with. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Saw this on a recent show and had to try it out immediately. Great sandwich! But, if you really have a sweet tooth or just want to make yourself sick - try drizzling it with chocolate sauce!!! WOW!! item not reviewed by moderator and published

I just got through maing this sandwich because I love peanut butter and banana sandwiches. I always eat them but this was my first time eating it as a hot sandwich. My children went bananas over this sandwich. Thank you Paula item not reviewed by moderator and published
... for a gal who's ALWAYS had a sweet tooth for 40+ years, I felt that the cinnamon-sugar mixture on top of the grilled sandwich was a bit too much for my palate! I could have done without it, for sure. Otherwise, it was a fun and easy sandwich to make, not to mention pretty darn tasty. On the other hand, I don't think I will be "jones-ing" to make it again any time soon. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I had recently watched Paula's show and seen this recipe and everyone in my house, there mouth was just watering, plus everyone loves regular peanut butter and banana sandwiches. well this was a nice twist so I made it and OH my is this delicious. Need to say we will no longer be making the normal cold one we will be making this recipe very often. the kids love it as much as the adults, even the picky eaters. Now i just may have to grow a banana tree in my back yard . thanks Paula. item not reviewed by moderator and published
overall, this was very tasty and a nice change from a typical lunch sandwich. however, it was a bit too sweet for me which is odd considering i have the biggest sweet tooth of anyone i know! and i couldn't taste the bananas much. next time i'll put less cinnamon in the PB mixture. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This is tasty! item not reviewed by moderator and published
My twins call sandwiches Amiches and they liked this but said it was too sweat... I will try leaving off the sugar at the end. item not reviewed by moderator and published

I tried this recipe last night after I watched the episode on Food Network. I had all the ingrediants and decided to make it. Wow it was yummy. Why not try to make it french toast style, I bet that would be good to and use jelly as a sauce. It would be a Peanut Butter and Banana French Toast Sandwich with Jelly. Try that out I'll bet it's just as good. Paula what do you think. item not reviewed by moderator and published

This is one of those recipes which you either love, or hate. To find out which category you fit in, you're just gonna have to try it. For me, bananas and peanut butter are just too strange of a mixture. Paula's addition of cinnamon, sugar, and honey make it tolerable, but in the end, I couldn't finish one sandwich. The taste was 'okay,' but the texture of it made me kinda sick after a few bites. Ah well, you can't please them all, right? item not reviewed by moderator and published
i think its cool that she twisted up the making of a peanut butter sandwich. i've never seen grilled peanut butter sandwich before and i think its really cool for kids, and i must say it taste awesome. I love this recipe. item not reviewed by moderator and published

What a great blend for the peanut butter! Grilling this sandwich takes it over the top for flavor and appearance! GREAT SANDWICH and fun for the kids too! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This is sooo yummy. The best part is the chunky peanut butter. It really gives it that special touch! Great recipe Paula!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
These were the best sandwiches! they not only "hit the spot" but they were easy to make. My family loved them! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Delish and fattening. Look out!!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
It was out of sheer morbid curiosity that I decided to make this sandwich. I LOVE PB&B's and had to see if this fat feast would top a good old fashioned snack. Needless to say, it did not. I couldn't get through eating 1/4 of the sandwich. It was just far too much of a good thing. It may have been "okay" minus the cinnamon and sugar topping, but I don't think by much. If you want to splurge, save it for something else. In the meantime...has anyone seen my insulin?? item not reviewed by moderator and published
I thought these sandwiches were very good. I was planning to eat a whole one but found that I was plenty satisfied with a half as it was so filling. I really like the cinnamon and sugar coating too! item not reviewed by moderator and published

Correct me if I'm wrong but history has it that Elvis liked his Peanut Butter and banana sandwiches with fried bacon. Now, that's a real meal. Other wise it's nothing special and way too sweet with the sugar and cinnamon on top.Bacon is never wrong! item not reviewed by moderator and published
My momma made me fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches at least 3 times a week the last few months of my pregnancy. It was a great highlight to a long pregnancy. Unfortunitly I try to stay way now, no, but it's what the baby wants excuses. item not reviewed by moderator and published
