4 sandwiches

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup crunchy peanut butter
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 to 3 ripe bananas
  • 8 slices white bread
  • Topping:
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

In a frying pan, melt 3 tablespoons of the butter. Make sure butter does not burn. In a small bowl mix together the peanut butter, honey, and cinnamon. Slice the bananas into 1/4-inch thick slices. Spread the peanut butter mixture on 4 slices of bread and cover with banana slices. Top with the remaining 4 slices of bread. Spread the remaining butter on both sides of the sandwiches. Grill the sandwiches in the frying pan until each side is golden brown.

For topping, combine the sugar and cinnamon in shallow plate. Coat the grilled sandwiches with the mixture. Cut diagonally and serve hot.

WOW! This was delicious, I just made it for my family and they loved it, too! Definitely a lunch or snack, very sweet. I love sweets but I used half as much sugar and cinnamon for the topping and its still plenty. It is just like a churro filled with gooey peanut butter and bananas, freakin delish!
Also, to make it easier maybe a little healthier, i added about 2.5 TBS butter to make sandwiches in. Instead of also buttering the bread, i just took out the sandwiches and added another 1.5 TBS to flip and cook the other side in. If you top the 1st cooked side with the topping while you're waiting, it stays on better.
    Great taste
My family and I loved this recipe, not something to eat all the time because of all the sugar and butter.
It was so tasty and my husband loved it...
I've been making this for years without the honey. Also delicious with a touch of cream cheese in there. If you're feeling really adventurous try with a strip or 2 of bacon. O.M.G. :
I thought this was delicious...and I'm not a sweets person but wow. I made this for my son and i almost wanted to steal it from him. Next time I'll make one for myself.
Bananas & penut butter, not a good combination :(
    So easy and delicious!
It wasnt that great. Will not make again. I hated the added sugar and cinnamon most of all. I cant believe this was elvis' favorite!
I really enjoyed this, but I did cut down on some of the butter because I thought it was a little excessive and unnecessary. My husband and I had this for lunch one day, and while it was tasty, it's one of those recipes that I will be making once in a great while. It was such a filling meal and I don't see how anyone could eat more than one sandwich. I was afraid that the cinnamon sugar coating on the bread was going to be too much, but it was delicious. I didn't use chunky peanut butter like the recipe called for, I just used regular. I think chunky peanut butter might be too rich for our tastes.
Haven't tried this yet, but plan to very soon. Sounds wonderful! One concern is the fat and calories. I might use lite bread, and instead of the butter, just spray a skillet with Pam. Also, could decrease the amount of honey in the PB and watch the portions used to make the sandwiches. May be able to limit the damage to my backside and my arteries. But Paula, I DO love you so! Your food is just wonderful and you are so fun to watch. Keep up the great work, girl!
    Episode:Gone Bananas,,was great,love bananas,Have a great day
Oh my gosh! This was so good. I grew up on peanut butter and banana sandwiches, and when I saw this I decided to give it a try for lunch. I didn't follow any measurments-just buttered a piece of bread and then put peanut butter on the other side, sliced the bananas over the PB and drizzled honey on it, buttered the other piece of bread and cooked it in the skillet. Then I dipped both sides in the cinnamon/sugar mix-It was SOOOO GOOD! give it a try-don't eat it every day - b/c it's not healthy, but a nice treat occasionally.
Had a bunch of bananas that we had to eat... found this recipe and decided to give it a try! Was a little questionable at first from reading all the reviews saying "TOO MUCH BUTTER" .. BUT! the recipe was perfect and delicious as it is. I mean, HELLO! It's Paula Deen, she's a southern woman who loves her butter & knows what she's doing! =) If you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen! Don't listen to the "too much butter" cmts, it's wonderfully sweet and delicious and perfect the way the recipe calls for.
I made the sandwich with cinnamon raison bread since i didnt have any white bread in the house and it was delicious very filing and inexpensive. Will definately make again for a quick breakfast
When I saw this recipe on tv, I was craving it for a few days,so I made it tonight and it was extremly sweet and filling. Too much butter. I just grease the pan with the buter instead. I could only eat half the sandwich.
When I was kid I use to eat fried pb sandwiches all the time. So when I saw this reciepe I was really excited. I like the flavor combinatiion of pb and bananas. But a made a few changes. I thought that 3 tbps was entirely too mutch butter. So I decrease that by quite a bit. I make one sandwich at time and I add only a little bit of butter just like when I make grilled cheese. The cinamon sugar topping is good, but I sometimes choose to omit it, because it makes it really sweet. I have used another reviewes suggestion and combined pb with nutella. That was good. While I do enjoy this sandwich. I can only eat it one on an occasional basis. One because its soooo sweet(I'm not really a sweet tooth), and two because its so fattening.
Thanks for easy way to use up a bunch of ripe bananas I was given.
when i tried this recipe i realized bananas where meant to be eaten ALONE, and i dont know if it was me but... too much butter! :s

This was very good & easy to make. A little messy to eat. Great for a dessert or breakfast. The cinnamon & sugar is what makes it.
These sandwiches were very good and could be used for any meal. I made it for breakfast and it was great with bacon for a sweet/savory mix but I'd make it any meal. The cinnamon sugar on the outside made it especially delicious. I never would've thought I'd like warm peanut butter and bananas but it really hit the spot.
This was the best sandwich I ever had . My kids love it, great for after school snack.
Omit the honey, sugar and cinnamon and its quite good.
Its hard to explain the satisfaction this recipe gives you is unforgetable IS SUPER GOOOOODDDDDDD I LOVE & MY Family too, Thank you Paula " I LOVe you"
It's like eating a Churro to find peanut butter and banana inside. My kids loved the treat. Thank You Paula for the new recipe.
I had never tasted a peanut butter and banana sandwich before this and i am glad that i chose this to be my first because it was delicious. As a topping, though, i used a drizzle of honey, more cinnamon, and ground nutmeg. This was awesomeee!!!
Put the bananas to better use.
I wasn't a big fan of the combination of cinnamon and peanut butter. It's a good idea, but just not for me.
