The recipe calls to work the shortening with your hands but I always see recipes that say handle as little as possible. Did everyone work with their hands and is this okay until you add the butter? I'm making one for Easter and I don't want to ruin it! Thanks!

Before Thanksgiving, I used this recipe for 17 pies that I sold. The crust was tastey and flakey. This is my new favorite pie crust dough.

the bake time and temp are wrong. they are 10 min at 425 degrees F then reduce to 350 degrees f for 45 min. Here is a link to a video that explains this: http://www.foodnetwork.com/videos/deen-thanksgiving-dilemma/27466.html

Thank you Paula. But I changed one thing: I use LARD instead of shortening. YUM, YUM!!!!!!!!

I was a little nervous making a pie crust as opposed to buying a frozen one as I usually do, but I wanted something special for my apple pie that I made on Thanksgiving. This crust was very easy to make and everyone said how great it was. I will be sure to make this one again.

I was so frustrated my first time making a pie crust, I straight f***ed it up. I said I was never going to make crust from scratch again. Then I found this recipe, it was so easy and the directions walked me right through it. I don't have a rolling pin but I put the dough between 2 pieces of parchment paper and used a jar to roll it out and it works fine. I also take the parchment paper and flip the dough onto the pan which makes it really easy to transfer it over.

I have used this crust for my berry pies in the summer and I love it. I have always made my own crusts but this one can't be beat!
