Do you have to use coconut? Could you just leave that step out and use reese's or something instead?

I'm giving this a 4 because 6 our of 8 of my guests said they loved it. I thought it was too sweet and an UGLY cake. My cream cheese mixture also didn't sink and the cake looked like the craters of the moon. I cut way back on the sugar for the glaze and it was still too sweet for my tastes. I have no idea what happened to the bite sized almond joy bars. They disappeared into the cake. I guess it is just a matter of tastes.

YUM, YUM, YUM!!! Delicious! I will make this again with just a few "tweaks". I wanted a really intense chocolate taste so I used a dark chocolate cake mix. I also used chopped almonds instead of pecans on the bottom which worked well with chopped Hershey Bars with Almonds.

I think the cream is a bit too sweet, so next time I will use less confectioners' sugar. I think it would work well with less butter, too, so next time I'll use a half a stick.

The glaze was PERFECT! Try the other recipes from the "Meat Me in Savannah" episode. They are all wonderful!

This recipe is almost identical to the "earthquake" recipe minus the candy and almond extract. They both are extremely moist and good cakes. If the volcano cake is a little too rich, you may want to try the Earthquake cake recipe which is rich as well, but not as much. The recipe can be found on the internet. Thanks Paula for the additions i.e. the frosting.

Loved this cake. Next time I will make it with rolo candies for a different flavor. Also made it with devils food mix and chocolate fudge.
