As I thought this recipe tasted good the directions were wrong as to the temp that the caramel has to get to.It SHOULD be 260 deg F to get to hard ball. Also should mention to get apples that don't have a wax coating on them OR give directions as to what to use to get the wax off.I use lemon juice.I have heard baking soda and cider vinegar works well too. Hope this helps those that might have had the same trouble I did on the caramel coating the apple.

I wish I had read the reviews before wasting my time and money on these! The flavor was ok but by the time the caramel was thick enough to stick it was too thick to stick then ran off anyway! I just peeled it all off and used it as caramel dip for apples. I love Paula but this recipe is terrible.

I attempted to make these apples this afternoon
. what a mess. I am a pretty good cook and dont need directions to make something fantastic, however I dii follow thie directions to a T. the carmel would not stick to the apples. I spent all this time and money and had the biggerst mess ever in my kitchen. Carmel was everywhere except on the apple. will try another recipe tomorrow very disspapointed

Super WONDERFUL taste... Rated this a 4 star because I am having the same problem other raters have had. Looks like a lot of us had the same trouble with the taffy running off the apples. Our apples were not waxed, so that was not the trouble. We picked them right off the tree. Mine turned out more like the carmel dip sold in the little tubs. PLEASE HELP US PAULA!!! What can we do to help the taffy stick better to our apples? Love you, your shows, cookbooks and recipes - Thank you! PS Love and best dishes to you too!

For those of you who have made this, does the caramel all drip off or does it stay on nice and thick? Whenever I've made caramel apples before it all drips off before it hardens on the apple. I just don't want to waste my time and ingredients if this is going to happen again.

MOST APPLES HAVE WAX ON THEM. JUST TAKE A KITCHEN TOWEL AND
WIPE THE APPLE CLEAN BEFORE DIPPING IT INTO THE TAFFY. THIS WILL SAVE
    YOU FROM THE GOOEY PUDDLE.
