Ingredients

  • 4 cups peeled, sliced peaches
  • 2 cups sugar, divided
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 8 tablespoons butter
  • 1 1/2 cups self-rising flour
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • Ground cinnamon, optional

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Combine the peaches, 1 cup sugar, and water in a saucepan and mix well. Bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from the heat.

Put the butter in a 3-quart baking dish and place in oven to melt.

Mix remaining 1 cup sugar, flour, and milk slowly to prevent clumping. Pour mixture over melted butter. Do not stir. Spoon fruit on top, gently pouring in syrup. Sprinkle top with ground cinnamon, if using. Batter will rise to top during baking. Bake for 30 to 45 minutes.

To serve, scoop onto a plate and serve with your choice of whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

    Very tasty

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I wanted to make this and did not have self rising flour. I was a little apprehensive about adjusting the flour but it turned... out very well . I used regular flour and added 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 31/2 teaspoons of baking powder. i also only used 6 tablespoons of butter. Have to watch that girlie fiqure.Read more

    The Yummiest Peach Cobbler

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I made this for the first time today and it was AWESOME! I used canned peaches and only used half the syrup, it was soooo... yummy! The person that left the comment about it not turning out right, didn't use the "self-rising flour". Thank you Paula, again, for another delicious recipe. This is going to be filed under "definitely make again and pass on" recipe. Mahalo and AlohaRead more

    Easy Family Favorite

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
This is my daughter's all time favorite dessert. It's really easy to make, just be sure and use self rising flour, or it will... not work properly. I have made it with both fresh and canned peaches, and both versions were very good. I use peaches in heavy syrup and substitute the syrup for the water in the recipe. It's also important to use real butter. If you get the butter good and hot in the bottom of the dish before you add the batter, you will get a delicious crunchy, buttery edge. I often add about a cup of frozen rasberries for a little twist. This is a great, easy recipe that I have memorized from making it so many times.Read more
