I followed the recipe exactly, wrapped them, and gave them to three different people, and they were uneatable. They were so sticky that they would pull off a dental crown. As a trick, my teenage daughter gave one to a friend, who took a big bite and then had her teeth glued together so that her jaw was in effect glued tight. Through clenched teeth she said, "What's the matter with these." Anyway, I won't use this recipe again.

OH MY WORD!!! Made one batch of these popcorn balls and i'm in seventh heaven right now!!! I even had to make a second batch so my kids could actually have a chance to eat one before I ate them all!!! I did add in the margarine/butter like everyone suggested BUT I forgot to add the vanilla extract and I don't taste or notice a difference without it!!! I was also surprised at how fast the mixture seemed to cool off before I started shaping the balls, but managed to make all of them with a tad bit left over for a "cracker jack" type. Thanks Paula!!

We could not eat these popcorn balls because they were way too sticky. Maybe I cooked the sugar mixture too long, but add butter to the recipe as other reviewers recommend or you may be wasting your time.

YUM! Even better than I remember from childhood. I added the 1/4 cup butter as per previous suggestion. Worked like a charm, other than the butter, followed the recipe exactly. Next time I'll add some food color.

this was a pretty good recipe. it definately beats the prepackaged stuff. i've never worked with sugar before, so this was pretty intimidating, but it worked out fine. however, when your done forming the popcorn balls, seriously, let them dry completely. i took a huge chunk of one while it was warm and it was ridiculously gooey. also, the episode that this recipe came on said that this would take about 10 minutes to get to 255. it took mine around 15.

Very sticky so its risky eating them as you could lose dental crowns. Never thought Paula would ever need to be told to add BUTTER but this recipe is more tasty and not as sticky when adding 1/4 cup butter at the beginning.

I was really nervous when I began making this recipe. For the main fact, I didn't have a candy thermometer. I used the old glass of water and drop the mixture in technique instead.

Was a success! I made a double batch too! Er.. may not do that again... as a houseful of dieters here. Wanted these for a Christmas party though.

I would definitely say to .pour slowly over your popcorn as to not soak it. Make sure you butter your wax paper and hands and you are all set to go!

    Happy Baking!!

The only thing I would do different is spray the spoon that I stirred it with!
I mixed them in a large microwave bowl so I could reheat it to get off the remaining syrup off the bottom of the bowl.
It covered three bags of microwave popcorn.
I added red food coloring for Christmas, and they're going to be stocking stuffers!
Thanks Paula it was quite a experience, you do have to work quickly. LOL!

I was surprised it turned into popcorn mush. Like most of you I checked the review to see if I was the only one that failed so badly. I will not give up the battle for the perfect popcorn treat I knew as a child of the 60's. Stay tunned for the next attempt.
