Well my first attemp was a crash and burn!! I did not let the syrup get hot enough and it just melted all my popcorn! What a waste! Being a little discourgaged, I was ready to go to Wal-Mart and buy the pre-made balls, but I said to myself "I refuse to fail!!" and tried again! May I suggest you test your syrup on a few kernals of popcorn instead of pouring it over all of your stash! I did not have a candy thermometer and used my meat themometer, which only goes up to 190' but I just kept on boiling the syrup mixture until I noticed on the back of a wooden spoon it started to look stringy when I pulled it from the pan.. I took a few kernals and syrup and they stared to stick together!! Eureka- I did it! It was a very proud moment- I gotta tell you! I poured the syrup mixture all over my popcorn and started forming balls! It was very easy once I figured out how the make the syrup and they taste good! They are very stick so watch those fillings!!

For the first time I actually was successful at making popcorn balls. The reciepe was as easy as indicated. I used microwave popcorn, which worked well. I will take the advice of a previous review and stir gently as I pour the candy so I get a more even coverage.

These popcorn balls taste great. The things i did differently include making the popcorn ahead of time and keeping it warm in a roaster pan in the oven at 200 deg. I left it there for at least 45 minutes. I then let the sugar sauce cool for about 5 minutes before pouring it over the warm popcorn. With these changes, the popcorn did not collapse and everything worked great. The second batch I made much more quickly and I ended up with soupy deflated kernels. Overall, good recipe just don't pour it over the popcorn right off the stove.

Not bad. When pouring the sugar mixture over the popcorn, make sure you stir the popcorn gently so that the sugar can cover the popcorn evenly. I just dumped the sugar mixture on, most of it settled on the popcorn on the top and bottom of the bowl and wouldn't really mix with the rest. So, stir the popcorn as you are pouring. Other than that, they taste really good. Great for a treat for children (my dentist would hate me right now!!!.

I just made these "popcorn balls" and wasted a lot of ingredients. The popcorn melted when I used microwave popcorn. The recipe needs to stay not to use microwave popcorn. I will not try to make them again. :(

The first time I tried this, I used microwave light butter popcorn, because that's all we had. I also didn't get it up to "hard ball" temperature. I dumped all the syrup on at at once, and just like another reviewer, it all melted and dissolved. It tasted ok, but certainly wasn't going to roll into balls.

The next day I used prepopped popcorn, plain, got the temperature up to hard ball, and poured very slowly, and it worked beautifully.

I recommed spraying the bowl too, as the popcorn glues itself to the bowl.

Yes, it's pretty sticky, but very yummy...and SWEET!!

I found these to be very easy and absolutely delicious. They are a threat to dental work though! They do tend to stick to your teeth a bit, but not disturbingly so. I loved this recipe and I will turn to it again and again.

I just made this for a Halloween treat and had no difficulty. I think the key is to use plain popcorn and to add the sugar mixture a little at a time.
